I really like how simple and free the Google podcast app is. I like that it auto downloads and it is very quick and easy to use.
I have tried two other podcasts apps and they either don't have the podcast I'm looking for or they inundate my phone with notifications and download a bunch of podcasts I have no interest in and I'm not subscribed to.
Now that Google podcast is going away, what is the best app to use? I'm looking for simple, diverse, free, and allows downloads.
For reference I still pay for YouTube music but the podcast section just sucks.
Hi everyone, Android user here. I love Google Podcasts because it's ad-free, free to use, and syncs with their web player so I can resume listening where I left off between my phone and computer. Apparently YouTube Music is going to replace Google Podcasts in 2024 and I need a replacement! My criteria:
Android app
Free to use
Ad free
Has a web player that syncs with your account
So far I haven't found anything that hits all these points, if someone could recommend something! I did install YouTube Music Revanced on my phone, and that seemed to work well, but YouTube Music doesn't have all the podcasts I want...
Hello dumpsterfire of a Youtube Music interface. First they took my Google Music, which was crisp clean, and did not play videos. Now they've taken my Podcast app. I understand wanting everything to be in one place, but why destroy the Ui with what looks like a blindmans attempt at organization. Its absolutely rubbish, and I'm currently looking for a better podcast space.
Why the fuck was Google Podcasts even shutdown?
I'm finding it hard to replace it with an App as good as it was
Ones I've tried:
-
Podcast Addict:
Why in the blue fuck is this recommended so much?
It's UX and UI are like something out of a 1998 Geocities website
-
Podcast Player:
The UX and UI is a bit better, but still miles away from how good Google Podcasts was
It also seems to only load a limited number of a podcast's back catalogue
In summary:
I'm looking for a Podcast app suggestion that was as smooth as Google Podcasts and also shows every single episode of a podcast
Edit
I no longer subscribe to Spotify, so that isn't an option
Thanks
I saw on here that Google Podcasts is ending but as of now I can still access new episodes to all my usual shows. I also truly don't know what I'll use if (?) and when it does go. I downloaded a bunch to try and I hated everything or they wanted money.
Help!
Also for context I'm a super commuter (over 10 hours a week) so I need my Podcasts and cannot afford anymore outgoings to pay for a platform.
it shuts april 2024.
you have specified neither your platform or desired features, so my default app suggestion is as ever Android's free and open source Antennapod. ad free and can never 'shut down'.
Both Podcast Addict and Pocketcasts are excellent on Android. Podcast Addict makes it easy to adjust your playlist for the next day.
Google podcasts is ending and being replaced with YouTube music. I don't like the YouTube Music interface at all. I've been trying to make Amazon Music work, but it's got a weird bug. If you're playing a podcast and try to go back to the list the app crashes.
Apple has it's own native podcast app, why can't Google just keep it's own? What podcast app are you using and do you recommend it?
Hey guys, Basically the title. I use to use apps like podbean etc but Google podcasts was my go to. The one thing I'm looking for and what I don't like about podcasts is that it doesn't show me the most recent episode. Let me explain.Usually Im interested in searching for a movie eh Napoleon dynamite instead of a certain podcast. In Google podcasts it doesn't put the newest episode first. So I'm wondering if there is a podcast where you cann filter by newest etc., since I've tried other apps and this feature doesn't seem to be used anymore. Lastly, I'm looking for an app that has a huge variety of smaller podcast etc., meaning some of the best episodes I've heard are from podcasts that only released fvwry minimal episodes.

Has Google abandoned the app? I used to like Google podcast but now it miss so many features compared to other apps and the app has the same problems since the last update that was 6 months ago.
Does anybody think there will be an update?
Thanks!
I was doing light research a few weeks ago about other apps to use. I'm lazy and don't want to go through the process of subscribing to my regular listens AND I can't deal with how outdated the interface is. One of my primary annoyances is not being able to have a play next option, and the app's inability to go directly to the episode I'm listening to when I click the show while listening. In short I too am ready to move on!
Try 'Podcast Addict'. It has a learning curve. Try for a week and boom you're addicted.
I want to export my subscriptions and ensure that everything i've already listened to is marked as read. Is that possible? Any recs?
So there was some news reports that came out today that Google podcast is no longer showing up on Google search results.
Some of the articles are speculating that this could mean the podcast app could be discontinued. Obviously Google has a history of canceling things like this.
I have been using it occasionally along with antenna pod. I enjoyed that it had material you theming for the home screen. Anyone have any thoughts on the future of this particular app?
Does anyone else use it?
