When you do a reverse image search, does the image you're trying to search get uploaded?
Spitballing, but the algorithm to do the anlysis and communicate with their image database is probably too much for most cellphones. Plus, they can better manage memory if the reverse image search engine is controlled in their shop. So, yes, I would guess a high probability that it is uploaded. Since there usually won't be a lot of metadata or tags associated with what is in the image it wouldn't have value to the image search provider. More importantly if they did post on the internet it would break privacy rules in some countries and at least one US state. If users found out about the practice then they would opt out and use a competing solution . Almost certainly the majority of these images are deleted from a temp location without human involvement. Some images which caused problems would be examined by a programmer to determine the error and fix their process. Also likely they have child porn filters so that they themselves don't pick any up when they crawl and prevent strange people from using their service to find illegal images. More on reddit.com

r/legaladviceofftopic on Reddit: Potentially Troublesome Reverse google image search of uploaded image?
March 28, 2024 -

'm not going to lie. I enjoy porn. When I see a picture that is of great interest I may save it. I have no desire of anything illegal and I don't collect large amounts. I downloaded a picture of what I thought was a college woman at the beach. Upon closer review she may have been <18 (and she may have been 18). I did reverse image search because I wanted to see if I could find out if it was. No results came back.

I thought prudence was the best course. I have zero desire to do anything illegal. So I deleted the image just in case. However, I now realize that the upload search may cause me a problem. I'm curious if I'm overly paranoid.

I have NEVER searched for anything illegal or downloaded anything illegal. EVER. If anything is suspect porn wise, I shy away and don't go to 'shady' sites. But worried about this mistake.
