If both goals are set to Primary conversions, then you would be double counting. Otherwise you are not. Just turn one to Secondary. Google & YouTube app is good to keep as a Primary. Answer from fathom53 on reddit.com

Google Shopping App Purchase Conversion and Enhanced Conversions
June 24, 2022 - Hello 👋 I have “Google Shopping App Purchase” conversion added by Google channel by Shopify app. When I tried to turn on enhanced conversions, I received an error “Issues detected with your enhanced conversion setup”. Conversion diagnostics page says: “Switch to in-page code or API for better results”. Then I found this 👉 https://community.shopify.com/c/shopify-apis-and-sdks/google-ads-set-up-enhanced-conversions-manually-with-the-global/m-p/1250527#M6...

When you link your Google Ads account, purchase, add to cart, and checkout started conversion actions are the suggested default in Google Ads, and set as the account default. Shopify will map that to a Shopify event. Select Confirm if you don’t want to update any of the events and destinations.

r/PPC on Reddit: GA4 or Google Shopping App Purchase for Tracking Shopify Conversions?
August 6, 2024 -

Hey all,

We've had both Google Shopping App Purchase and GA4 conversion actions for purchases on multiple accounts and are suspecting that we've been double counting.

So I have 3 questions:

  1. Would we be double counting in this case (the values on both conversion action are pretty close).

  2. If we make one of them secondary would this solve our issue or would we have to delete or pause one?

  3. GA4 or Google Shopping App Purchase, which is more accurate/reliable? I believe Google Shopping App Purchase is created automatically for Shopify stores that have the Google & YouTube app installed (correct me if I'm wrong) therefore wouldn't this be more accurate than GA4 trying to sniff all the data indirectly?

Thanks!!

November 26, 2023 - Some users have been able to fix the issue by removing, and re-installing the Google and youtube app. What you are experiencing, happens a lot, to a lot of users. If that fails, you may want to use a Shopify Pixel App for conversion tracking. Alternativally, fill out this form: https://support.google.com/merchants/contact/shopify_3p_support_app

Shopify's Google Shopping App Purchase Conversion : r/PPC
October 27, 2021 - Assuming the conversion tracking is set up properly across everything, there's no difference in using the Google Shopping App conversion vs. GTM. Both will capture click and view-through conversions. Importing from GA only captures click conversions; you don't get view through conversions there. So it's usually not preferred unless you don't have the expertise to pass through dynamic purchase values into a proper conversion tracking tag. Keep in mind Google gets super greedy when you use the native Shopify Google Shopping integration with regards to conversions.

r/PPC on Reddit: Integrating Shopify with Google Ads and Analytics for Conversion Tracking: Do I Need to Configure Anything Else?
March 7, 2024 -

Hello everyone,

I'm in the process of connecting my Shopify store with Google Ads and Analytics to ensure effective tracking of my advertising campaigns, especially tracking purchases. From my research, I've gathered that installing the Google and YouTube Channel app for Shopify should allow a direct connection with Google Ads and Analytics, theoretically enabling purchase tracking without additional configurations.

Here are my specific questions:

  1. Integration Requirements: Do I really only need the Google and YouTube Channel app for Shopify to activate purchase tracking, or are there hidden settings or additional steps I need to be aware of? Specifically, I'm wondering if I need to configure the Google Tag Manager or any other tools.

  2. Verification of Tracking: How can I make sure that the tracking is working correctly before I actually start running ad campaigns? Is there a way to test the tracking of purchases in real-time to ensure that all data is correctly transmitted to Google Ads and Analytics?

  3. Best Practices: Does anyone have experience with this integration and can share best practices or tips, particularly regarding verifying tracking data or avoiding common pitfalls?

I want to make sure I'm doing everything correctly before investing money into ad campaigns and would greatly appreciate advice or guidance from the community.

Thank you in advance!

For integrating Shopify with Google Ads and Analytics effectively, the Google and YouTube Channel app for Shopify indeed facilitates a direct connection. However, ensure you've correctly configured all aspects: Check Installation: Confirm the Google and YouTube Channel app is properly installed and linked to your Google Ads and Analytics accounts. Configure Google Analytics: In your Shopify admin, ensure Google Analytics is correctly set up, including enabling eCommerce tracking for more detailed reporting. Verify Google Ads Link: Make sure your Google Ads account is linked to your Google Analytics account for seamless data sharing. Test Tracking: Use tools like Google Tag Assistant or the real-time reports in Google Analytics to verify tracking is operational. Simulate a test transaction if possible. Use UTM Parameters: For deeper insights and to track the effectiveness of specific campaigns, ads, or mediums, utilize UTM parameters in your URLs. Monitor Performance: Regularly check the Conversions section in Google Ads and the eCommerce section in Google Analytics to ensure data consistency. While the app simplifies integration, actively monitoring and occasionally reviewing the setup is crucial for catching any discrepancies early. Additionally, consider leveraging the Google Tag Manager if you're implementing advanced tracking setups or integrating other marketing tools for a centralized management solution. Always test before launching campaigns to avoid data tracking issues.

How to Set Up Google Ads Conversion Tracking in Shopify
August 25, 2025 - People still stuff up conversions with the app by doubling up purchase goals. The biggest upside of the app is you get a variety of additional conversions automatically created like “Add to Cart” and “Begin Checkout”. These other conversions don’t distort reporting because the events are excluded from the “Conversions” reporting column and associated metrics. You can create these yourself if you want them, but after a decade of Google Ads management for Shopify brands, I’ve never used such proxy goals to make decisions in ad accounts.
