Does anything like that exist? I know Google Sky is still up but it’s been a shadow of its former self for years by now. I can’t even use search in it on any of my devices anymore and I don’t know enough about the sky to navigate any route more sophisticated than “the bright part of the milky way with a dark x thingy is the core and the two significant areas that aren’t the milky way are the magellanic clouds”. I’d hope to be able to zoom out to as close to a whole-sky view as possible and then zoom all the way in to the Webb deep field images or any other object and even better be able to expand info about objects and seeing alternate images of them by hovering over them. Am I asking for too much? It used to work this way why did they take it away?

All three Stellarium: Web version: https://stellarium-web.org/ Phone/Tablet version: https://stellarium-labs.com/stellarium-mobile-plus/ Mac/Linux/Windows full program version: https://stellarium.org/ They are in increasing order of features/functionality/complexity with the PC version being the ultimate - but the equivalent of Google Sky would be (2). If you use that one note there is a "hidden" (but powerful!) secret in there. When you run it you will see a "layer" icon in the lower left. Press that and you get 6 options. If you just tap any one of them it looks like it is just an "on/off" switch bt the "hidden bit" is when you press and hold any one of them. Then it leads to a sub-menu. The one for "Labels" is particularly important as it has sliders for "density of information". Turn the DSO one right up and you will then see far more DSO detail shown. For a laugh turn the Satellite one right up and see what Elon Musk has done for astronomy ! BTW if you get the fully featured PC version then note that it can do cool stuff like letting you take a 360 degree photo of a viewing point in your garden and (with a bit of editing/masking) setting this as the background so you can see how the roofs/chimneys/trees in your garden will block part of your view.

Sky Map the Android app? It was open sourced way back in 2012 and lives on as https://github.com/sky-map-team/stardroid . Or was there a different Sky Maps?
