Google invented new ways to alter movies with AI for The Sphere. It's sure to be controversial.
1 day ago - However, the Sphere experience also takes things much further than video upscaling. As the Journal reports, Google used generative AI models from its Gemini family, including Veo 2 and Imagen 3, to reimagine entire shots with extended backgrounds and to include characters missing from view.

How Sphere’s new 'The Wizard of Oz' experience is coming to life with AI
April 9, 2025 - The experience at Sphere called for keeping all these elements together, in hyper-realistic detail. To achieve this, the team has three major technical hurdles to overcome. Using versions of Veo, Imagen and Gemini specially tuned for the task, the Google teams and their partners developed an AI-based “super resolution” tool to turn those tiny celluloid frames from 1939 into ultra-ultra-high definition imagery that will pop inside Sphere.

I saw Google's AI vision for The Wizard of Oz at Sphere, and I'm still in shock
April 9, 2025 - Over the past two years, Google has been working on using generative AI to upscale and augment The Wizard of Oz, the beloved 1939 film that has been a touchstone for generations. Google DeepMind and Google Cloud — along with Warner Bros. Discovery and Magnopus — are doing this work to show the movie in its entirety at Sphere, the iconic spherical theater in Las Vegas.

r/GoogleMaps on Reddit: User-Created Photo Spheres
April 2, 2024 -
I really enjoyed adding photo spheres with my Android phone when I went on hikes in remote places. Now that the Street View App is gone and the Google Maps app doesn't seem to have any inherent capabilities to upload photo spheres, what's the alternative if I don't want to buy a dedicated 360 camera?
It seems to me that Google is discouraging user-uploaded photo spheres. They may even remove the feature in the future altogether.
Anyone with recent photo sphere experience have advice to share?

I miss this too, and I hope they bring it back. I think they won't though, because I suspect that the current Pixel can't really create very reliable photospheres, and so they blocked photospheres on the camera app, so people can't test if the Pixel 8 is worse or better than the Pixel 7. I loved creating photo spheres from my phone. I have two different 360 cameras, and they both suck, compared to taking phone photospheres. So, I don't recommend you buy a 360 camera. I haven't found a replacement camera app that does photospheres. I think your best choice is professional stitching software, but that's a huge pain to make a photosphere with.

Last I checked I thought the problem was having a high-def-enough camera for the feature to be enabled?

August 26, 2025 - It took similarly new ways of thinking, seeing, and creating to even begin to realize The Wizard of Oz at Sphere. You can read all about it on Google’s Keyword blog, but in short, the Sphere team tasked us and Magnopus with solving three creative challenges related to the original film that could really only be achieved with gen AI.
