It used to be that when I right-clicked an image and chose to search it, I could translate the text in the image.
But suddenly, the option changed into "search with Google lens" and the option to translate diappeared. I used it daily to translate text in memes and comic strips from asian artists, and now I don't know what to do :(

Not Google, but similar.
Yandex Translate has image upload using desktop web browsers.

I use this in a Flotato browser which enables me to quickly translate screen grabs without them accumulating on my hard drive (because the screen grab is automatically deleted after I've dragged it onto the Yandex/Flotato window).
Afterwards you can use the foreign text from Yandex (Open in Translate button) with alternative translation services like DeepL or Google Translate.
Also: on the latest macOS, you should be able to extract foreign text from an image and translate it.

The purely Google approach I use is:
- Upload the image to your Google Drive
- Right click image and choose Open with > Google Docs
A new document will be created containing the image and extracted text
- In Google Docs choose Tools > Translate document... and choose your target language
A second document will be created with the translated text
Done!

Turns out, that the google image search will give you an option to translate the text (as opposed of just doing a reverse image search) in desktop, only if you are using google chrome.
I often need to translate Japanese text inside images, until now I had to use my cellphone's google app and point the camera at my computer's screen -.-.
There's clearly no reason for this limitation, because when I change my agent string, it works just fine.
So basically. Google limiting the ux for other browsers just because they can.
