No, PayPal is better. PayPal has “Good & Services” when you create in invoice. Avoid using “Family & Friends” = Scammers use this a lot to refund themselves back. Answer from Deleted User on reddit.com

r/cork on Reddit: PayPal or Google Pay?
July 1, 2024 -

Hey guys, it is going to be my first time in Cork(Ireland in general). I am going to study at UCC. I don’t like to carry around cash much. Thinking of having a digital wallet. So should i go for PayPal or GPay? Based on which is more popular, which is used mostly, which will give me the least problems and which people just like more( if there is any such preference at all!). And just wanted to make sure, there are going to be QR codes right? Like you’re not transferring money from one person to another by taking their phone numbers all the time right?

Hey there. I'm curious as to people's general thoughts on using Google Wallet as opposed to PayPal. Wallet has zero fees (if you're adding funds from a bank account and not a card), and I use it to manage payments for my roommates, pet sitters, and other random shit. Is there something I don't know about Google Wallet that makes it less desirable?

Hi all,

I'm new to internet shopping and I've become aware that entering your physical cc details can be risky, which is why I am opting for electronic payment. However I am unsure which service to choose out of Apple Pay, Google Pay and Paypal.

I will only be using the service for online shopping. I prioritise security, a supportive service that won't freeze/ become unresponsive etc. and won't charge fees for buying.

Out of the many reviews and articles I have read, I am looking to go with Apple Pay. As a second opinion, I was wondering if you guys can confirm if Apple Pay is the way to go.

Thanks.

June 3, 2025 - For me using Paypal is the only way to get my account on the google wallet. My banks don't support being added to the wallet directly (the banks have to individually allow that), but adding my bank account to paypal and then adding paypal to google wallet works..

Answer (1 of 3): Well, Google Wallet is more of a side project for the company, while Paypal's pay processing is it's reason to exist. Google wallet is a lot more friendly, fee wise, for the person getting the money.

I have a iPhone and use Apple Pay. I am wondering if I’m missing anything… if there would be possible reasons for me to switch or more likely use Apple Pay and google pay or PayPal. One thing from my research has been that google pay and PayPal can have a bank account directly linked. I can’t really think of the reason or use case of this when mobile wallets already can have debit cards linked. If there is a reason any of you are aware of I’d like to know. Also one source said google pay and PayPal are accepted at more online places. This also I can’t see it as much of a benefit. I don’t know how each service compares with person to person transfers, and the storage of money on these platforms ( I also can’t really think of why this would be of any benefit). If you are a iPhone user and choose to use one of these other wallets instead of or in addition to Apple Pay, please explain why and what use case. Ty

December 26, 2022 - Essentially, Google Pay’s user-friendly mobile design was intended to hold multiple credit accounts and payment types, while PayPal was built to facilitate bank transfers. These foundational differences have faded over time. Recently, Google resurrected a previous offering, Google Wallet; in the United States, both Google Pay and Google Wallet have the functionality to handle mobile payments.

Which of the two reveals more data about your purchases, or makes it likelier that third parties will acquire your data?

Ik what sub I'm in. But people need to differentiate between Privacy, anonymity & security. Google & Apple are insanely good at security. I'd simply blindly trust them, as I'd only have to deal with OpSec. As for privacy, your bank would obviously know what you are doing. If you use Google pay, so will they so they can enhance security. Your govt cards like drivers license & tax returns also know your income and so forth. Yes, lesser privacy & lower anonymity. Also, google takes cuts, which I dislike. But in terms of security, which is what a lot of people should be caring about. Google and Apple are definitely safe ways to go for it. Use Google Pay. You DO NOT have to be someone who is OFF THE GRID. But rather someone who isn't PURELY reliant on Big Tech. Google is mostly ad based, if they were to sell your bank purchases and details. The bank would be sueing them immediately. Third party audits would screw them. And so would the people (if they were tech literate enough to know) However, Google Pay does help for an EcoSystem. Which is why it is exists. Same with Android & VSC & chromium, both open source but exist purely to dominate in the EcoSystem. Google Pay's purpose isn't for ad revenue, but for completeness for a mobile experience EcoSystem and to increase user dependency & ease of use. Use Google pay for its security. Especially with Bank Details. You others for anything else.

Simply put, my question is will I not receive cashback if I use Google Wallet to pay at a register?

I've heard a lot of different things about this topic, and I just want to make sure I understand it correctly.

  1. Google Pay will be discontinued, and is switching to Google Wallet. What exactly does this mean?

  2. My understanding is that Google Wallet is merely a way to store credit cards on a phone, and pay using the phone. But, other than using a phone to pay, it is the same (as far as points and fees go), as paying with a traditional credit card. Is this correct?

  3. I've heard of some credit cards (such as Kroger) that give 5% on "mobile wallet", so does that just mean you'll get 5% anywhere that allows Google Wallet payments with that card, even if it isn't a grocery store? Furthermore, some cards have a rotating category of "mobile wallet", so would this be a similar concept?

  4. I also read that if Google Pay is used, cashback will not get applied towards whichever credit card was used, since the method was Google Pay. Google Pay has a cash back program of their own, but I would not be interested in participating in this. To avoid all of that, would it be best to use Google Wallet and avoid Google Pay?

Thanks, and apologies if I'm all over the place with this question. I just want to make sure I understand it, as I have read mixed things regarding fees, cashback, etc. I have my cards loaded on Google Wallet and ready to use, but just feel hesitant to use them until I understand this more.
