Google Workspace can work but it costs $6 per month. If you want a cheaper option, you can try Zoho (starting from $0/month) or iCloud + (starting from $1/month). For your domain, I suggest you transfer your domain to Cloudflare, Namecheap, Spaceship, or Porkbun. Their price is good for only $10-13/year, just don't buy a hosting if you don't need it. You can use their DNS services or Cloudflare DNS for free. For your website/Landing Page, you can use GitHub for free, you can put a blank page or static page about you. More on reddit.com

Setting up Google Workspace Individual
Google sold their domain business formerly known as Google Domains to Squarespace. You can still buy a domain from Squarespace. Yes, you can configure 'your domain' to use Google Workspace and you will get a custom email in your name business/domain. I'll suggest using the business starter Google Workspaces. It costs about $6-$7 bucks a month. Create a bunch of Alias from your first Workspace email so you don't incur the cost of buying a license for more email accounts that you might not need. I know Google One plans are for individuals and Google Workspace is for organizations. However, currently I pay 20/month for Google One 2TB AI Enhancement. Google Workspace 2TB (which includes full AI features and more apps,) is 14/month (per user, but you only need one user.)
Am, I missing something, am I dumb to keep the Google One plan when for 5 dollars less per month I can get the same storage and more features/ more apps, with an individual Google Workspace account? Or is there something I am missing here?

You'll need a domain to go along with the Google workspace giving you a whole new Google account and email (on that new domain) where Google one is an extension to your existing Google account

I have recently retired and shut my 3 business websites at Hostgator and am letting my ownership of 2 associated domains lapse because I no longer need them.
I have maintained ownership of the 3rd domain simply to continue using my "professional" email address [email protected] . because that's the only email address 90% of my contacts have used to reach me for the last 20+ years. But Hostgator charges $118/year (more) to host this domain, even without a website ... plus they're constantly pulling tricks with add-ons and up-selling that are beyond my feeble understanding.
The Hostgator rep suggested setting up a Google Workspace Individual account and moving my single email account [email protected] there.
Will this work? Is this a good solution for a retired professional who needs to continue using a single old email account but no longer needs full website hosting?

Wouldn't the price still be about the same? If you just want to have something cheap I would suggest just hosting the domain and do an email forward to a regular Gmail account. Then it's like $20 a year.
