Hello,
Same thing happened to me:
- I downloaded and installed GWSMO (Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook (GWSMO) from here: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gssmo/
- It installed successfully: downloaded and installed until a "Installation Succesful" message was present.
- Nothing happened. It never asked for a Google sign in, as the documentation states.
This is the second time it happens in a new laptop in the last few months, but I have an older one where I have GWSMO running. So I looked at its Start Menu and found this shortcut (which was not created in the new computer):
I check where it points to and found this path:
C:\Program Files\Google\Google Apps Sync\profileeditor.exe
I went to the new computer, browsed to that file, ran it, and voilà!

Hello Craig Howie1,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble setting up Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook.
First, you will need to check with Google support to check all the different processes with you, please note that GWSMO is installed on your computer. You can download the latest version from the Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook download page.
Next, try restarting Outlook and see if that prompts GWSMO to start the setup process. If that doesn't work, you can try manually starting the setup process by following these steps: i have found some third-party links:

I've got a lot of people using Outlook and Google Workspace Sync to sync emails. These are legacy Outlook (Office 2010 - 2021 standalone), not O365. Today I tried to install Google Workspace Sync on a fresh Windows 11 24H2 computer, it shows that it is installing the app but then quickly says it is done but it doesn't really install. Eventviewer > Application says "there is a problem with the installer package, a DLL required for this install to complete could not be run" Google Fu has other people with the issue, but no solutions.
I guess this is just an FYI while I see if Google has an answer for me.
Edit: I think we're humped. Starting Fall of 2024, Google Workspace accounts will no longer support Google Sync. Pic
