I’m starting to watch the newer seasons of Hell’s Kitchen, and I was extremely surprised when Gordon said that the salary for the job is still only 250,000$.
I had actually recently watched season 1 and the salary was also $250,000, which is $400,000 in today’s money accounting for inflation. Not only that but the cost of living is also higher and many of these contestants have families
Another thing is I’m almost 100% sure the show is making far more money than in season 1, would it really hurt to at least double the salary?
I just feel like as the competition gets more and more difficult as the show runners come up with more and more elaborate challenges, a better salary for the winner would justify the intense competition.
I know people making close to $220,000 as AWS engineers, so I guess it just feels weird to see people compete and put themselves through hell for a job that pays a bit better. Lets not forget that this job would require them to uproot their entire lives to accept, why would anyone not just take the cash upfront and deny the job and use the publicity to start their own catering company or something?
In fact I feel like that’s most of the competitors plans, so it feels funny when Gordon announces the job as if it’s the main eye catcher, when most will probably not take the job at all. I think a better salary would make things more interesting
