Best Adirondack Chair plans for a big guy with not such a great back
I’ve made chairs from plans from Barley Harvest. Very happy with the plans and templates. They have a standard Adirondack chair and the Grandpa version which is more upright and a bit bigger. The normal chairs are so low that it is hard to get up from it. There is a style called grandpa adirondacks that are higher off the ground. There are some plans that are for sale on etsy and ebay.

December 21, 2014 - I made a couple of jigs to help me make the chair, the first was a jig to support the two side rails of the chair. I don't have enough hands to hold the side rails vertical, plumb, aligned with each other and then attach the seat slats. In the last picture you can see the simple "Square" box I made, I clamp the side rails to this, aligning, plumb and vertical this was so much easier . The other jig I used to hold the vertical back slates in position while I measured and aligned them before attaching. I'm looking forward to making the other Adirondack Chairs soon.

Looking for comfortable Adirondack Chairs and something that I can get out of easily I'm 6'5" and 300+ lbs. I would like to build 6 of them for around my firepit. I heard of Grandpa Adirondack Chairs, but not sure how comfortable that is. Any suggestions on plans? Also, what species of wood, would you recommend? I'm in the Northeast. I don't mind spending a bit on quality wood. I like low maintenance and don't want to refinish every year. I also don't like the way Cedar looks when it greys. I wouldn't mind painting the chairs white or a different color. Thank you.

I’ve made chairs from plans from Barley Harvest. Very happy with the plans and templates. They have a standard Adirondack chair and the Grandpa version which is more upright and a bit bigger.
