Help! Granite Vanity Top
Cost to cut granite slab for bathroom vanity?
We were to the point in our bathroom remodel that we're ready to get a new vanity top. Unfortunately the vanity has unusual measurements, meaning we can't just but something from a store. The vanity and the top will need to be custom made. We talked with a local company that creates custom cabinets and counter tops. I told them I was wanting to do quartz since it's for the bathroom and it's a high humidity space (fan hasn't been installed yet). They suggested granite because it's cheaper and comes in more color options. We're not too worried and the cost between the two materials. It's not a huge counter top (40 inches long, 21 inches deep).
So if you hear to choose which would you pick? If you have granite in your bathroom do you like it? Is it hard to keep clean?
Use a long sharp knife, like a carpet/flooring knife, to slice through the caulking or construction adhesive that was used on the top of the vanity when the sink was set onto it. Then yes, use a lifting/prying strategy that minimizes potential for damage to the cabinet. You may need to slice, lift a little, slice some more, lift a little more, slice...
Since the old sink is cracked just use a sledge hammer to break it into small pieces which can then easily be levered off the glue joints.
