I’ve never shopped at winco but I’m wondering if it might be worth a try. Anyone have experience at these two stores? Which one has more variety? Which has cheaper products?
New to the area and trying to find the best places to shop for cheaper produce and goods. Don't know the real differences in niches that each of these stores have, like are some better for dried goods or frozen goods or fresh produce?

Which store is more reliable for cheaper prices? I've been mainly going to WinCo, but wondering if Grocery Outlet ever tends to be cheaper.
I am wondering if anyone has experiences between these 3 grocery stores.
Just for context, I just got married with my partner and brought her to Idaho. I have been shopping at Walmart for the most part, but realizing that the quality of the food is not great.
We’re trying to save money on groceries, but also want great quality. Please let me know!
Is Winco really that much cheaper than conventional grocery stores like Safeway? I have never been and am planning a trip next week. Just wondering if it’s worth my time. It’s not like a Grocery Outlet is it? I’ve seen so many posts about Aldi and we don’t have one where I live (kind of jealous lol). Are they comparable?
Edit: Thanks for the comments everyone! Sounds like I need to check out Winco asap.
Winco is great. Almost always cheaper, bur keep an eye on sales at your usual grocery stores.
They are way cheaper than Safeway, barring loss leaders. Their bulk section is also fantastic, you can get as much or as little as you need. Them being a 24/7 store is also incredible for night shift work, I love them for that.
Trying to cut back on spending & see how extreme I can take it for a couple of months.
Foodmaxx has better prices than Walmart, but the foodmaxx I go to is ghetto af & people smoke crack in the parking lot.
Trying to save some money on groceries! I would like to see where the best locations are for organic produce, clean meats, etc. and am open to any other store recommendations. I haven’t been to Winco since I was about child! I went to the Grocery Outlet in SE but was sad they stopped carrying the heirloom Happy Eggs 🙁
Seems like everything there is the same price or more expensive than walmart, except for a couple weirdo loss leader products now and then
Winco even with the sales tax is cheaper than both overall.
Where is the most affordable place you go for groceries?
Grocery outlet is cheaper for specific items, you have to know your prices, and it fluctuates. Sometimes yogurt is cheaper there, sometimes it's protein cereal...
But like other comment said, winco is going to be cheapest between Pullman and Moscow. Winco for food, Walmart for toiletries and non food is essentially the way to go. Safeway is only cheaper on select foods on their weekly ads, typically fruit is on sale and sometimes cheaper than winco. It's still cheapest at winco overall.
If you go to Lewiston often, the bread outlet store has $1 loaf bread wall with bread, bagels, toast, English muffins, etc. based on what they need to rid of.
Costco is, again, cheaper only in some stuff due to bulk. For example, I can get 27 servings of kettle corn popcorn for 6$ versus 4.99 7 servings at Walmart. But the dairy fruit and meat is either same price or more than winco.
Winco is debit card only and is one of reasons to why they're allowed to keep prices low.
WinCo is 🐐
I just started shopping here anytime I need anything. I don't care that it's a little out of the way, I pay a fraction for what I need versus going to grocery stores nearby me. And if they ever master home grocery delivery then it'll be all over for their competitors.
I have regularly shopped at GOBM for years. It was a joy to shop there you could always find super reasonable prices a nice selection of vegan and vegetarian food. Over the past year or so I’ve noticed that the majority is as much as Kroger or more and Trader Joe’s is less for several things. I went shopping three weeks ago I usually have some staples that I always buy. When I went in yesterday I was shocked at how much the prices have been jacked up.Bars I bought for 399 three weeks ago was 599; frozen food that was 199 was now 499. Pizza I had bought that was 299 was for 599. Oyster crackers .99 were 1.99. All the same brands And the list goes on. They have plants there that were ridiculously overpriced 4 inch pots which used to be $.99 everywhere else which are now 149 are priced to 299 to 799!! I found the only bargain I can find at bargain market are the things that are about to expire that they have to clear out. It is so disappointing and ugly that they are jumping on the jack up the food prices train. Other things they had like solar lights the dollar tree sells for 125 are 599. Shopping in the store last night made me physically ill. I decided to check out a different grocery outlet bargain market to see if it was just that franchise owned store or if it was across the board. Sadly it was the same. Cans of soup for 499 that aren’t even high-quality. It is like they are taking a page out of the Walmart rule book make a couple things cheaper and jack everything up high. Are used to really enjoy going to the store now it’s just another high price grocery store. Oh yeah by the way they jack up the price you would be paying so it looks like you’re saving when in truth you really aren’t. This type of price gouging really hurts families and people trying to make ends meet. The whole purpose of having a store like that is to able to save and get more bang for your buck. If I had bought exactly the same items my total before tax would have been 23.00 MORE for the exact same things I purchased 3 weeks ago. I am so sad and disappointed in this company.
I'm curious if anyone has actually done the math and found out as a percentage how much you save on average by shopping at WINCO or Walmart as compared to other grocers.
As gas prices continue fall while food prices continue to rise, I’m deciding to be more price sensitive for my grocery shopping. However I’m from a small town and not used to so many options. I’m curious how you’d rank the following in terms of affordability, options, quality.. also if you have a favorite store for different things.
-Safeway / Albertsons -Walmart -Fred Meyer -Market of Choice -Whole Foods -Grocery Outlet -Costco -WinCo That’s all the chains I can think of right off.
I’m pretty confident that MoC and WF are most expensive, and Safeway / Albertsons tend to be more expensive than Walmart, but not sure on the others.
Not sure why I’m 28 and just discovering them but hello their prices are so much cheaper than most other places and for the same brands!! In this economy?? I’m a fan And I love how they mark the prices down for the items about to expire, I’ve found so many things for under $1 just because the “best by” date is approaching. Have never seen anywhere else doing so but it makes so much sense to do that, love it. Also found huge planter pots for $25 like hello?
I'd appreciate some advice here! I'm moving from the midwest to the Hillsboro/Tanasbourne area, and there's a few grocery stores I've never heard of. I'd like to know the differences between them and if any can be compared stores we have here. I'm looking for a balance between quality produce, wide variety, and good prices. It would be nice if they had a good selection of vegan items too. Also, do any stores have a reliable scan and shop app for your phone?
Where I'm from the stores I'm used to are Meijer, Kroger, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Fresh Thyme, Aldi & Walmart.
Where I'm moving there is Safeway, Grocery Outlet, New Seasons, Fred Meyer, WinCo, Albertsons, as well as Whole Foods, Trader Joe's & Walmart Neighborhood Market.
