Hi, I'm a new home owner and a DIYer. The shower in my master bath has a thermostatic valve but the temperature knob is frozen. I just popped the cap off the shower knob, unscrewed the center screw, and removed the knob. I suspect that I'll have to replace the cartridge, but I suppose I'm confused how the cartridge and the knob work (and whether I need to replace the knob as well). I believe the element is a Grohe 1/2" Thermo-element (Model 47111000): https://www.grohe.us/Bathroom-Faucet-Fittings-and-Spare-Parts/1-2-Inch-Thermo-Element/GROHE-CHROME-47111000#. So it has that tapered stem over which the shower knob fits. When I put the shower knob back on and tighten the nut, its just spinning freely now. I guess my question is: how is the knob supposed to rotate the stem? Is it supposed to be catching the two flat spots on the stem? Am I missing a part?
