How do you set up Google Workspace for new clients?

You might go to where ever you registered it and troubleshoot from there. You can contact the tech support folks at that DNS host for assistance. You're going to have to confirm/clean up the ownership verification and probably fix the DNS before you can move forward.

If you've been tasked with setting up an existing business with a Google Workspace account for email purposes, how do you do that during sign up?

It asks for the email address of someone at the domain you're setting up. What if I don't currently have access to one of their email inboxes (since their email is hosted elsewhere currently). But I do have access to their DNS.
Just curious what is best-practice when creating the initial account for their business. In the past, I recall being able to use my own email address, but may be mistaken, since I don't do it very often. Meanwhile, I've signed up for "Google Cloud Partner Advantage" to likely do it via that method, which is likely the way most companies to this for their clients.
I bought a domain from Google Domains, and my initial plan was to use Zoho email for the custom email.
So I added the TXT record from Zoho workplace in my Google Domains account.
But soon we decided that we'll just go ahead with Google Workspace itself, so I deleted 1. The domain from Zoho workplace, 2. The Zoho account itself 3. The TXT record from Google Domains.
Now when I am trying to buy a new Google Workspace account, it won't let me link my domain. The error says 'This domain has been registered and is in the process of ownership verification'.
I have tried the troubleshooter too but no luck. Any help in this regards would be greatly appreciated.

Go to your Google domains account and try to get Google workplace from there. After you login your Google domain account, go to email on your left side. You should see get Google workspace. From there it'll walk you thru to get username and it'll email you Temp password to login. When you go to Google workspace, it'll walk you thru to verify your domain. I've done this many times cause I couldn't make up my mind if I wanted Zoho or Google workspace.
