What bedding is best for guinea pigs?
Bedding for guinea pigs should be made of materials like wood shavings or shredded paper that are dust-free and non-toxic. Aspen or pine shavings are the most common type of bedding for guinea pigs, but be sure to avoid cedar shavings as they give off an aromatic oil which can be harmful when inhaled.

How much bedding do guinea pigs need?
Guinea pigs need bedding that is at least 2 inches deep in their habitat. This will provide them with the necessary warmth and comfort they need to sleep and relax. You may need to add more bedding through the week as your guinea pig makes a nest or during any messier accidents.

What bedding should guinea pigs avoid?
Guinea pigs should avoid bedding made of cedar shavings, corncob, clay cat litter, and straw. Cedar shavings give off aromatic oils that can be harmful when inhaled by your pet, and the other types of bedding may contain dust or particles that can irritate your guinea pig's eyes and respiratory system.

October 4, 2022 - I use lavender paper bedding because I live in an apartment building with a shared washer that barely works and you have to pay to use it lol. So fleece isn't really feasible for me. It's not really that expensive, it smells good, it's really easy to do spot cleans because it soaks up all the pee like instantly, and my guinea pigs really love it for some reason.

We recommend paper bedding, Aspen, or a blend of the two to those new to guinea pigs. Fleece also can be used but with fleece, you'll notice guinea pigs' poop more and need to sweep it (as well hay and other debris) off the fleece daily.

Bedding - Best Bedding for Guinea Pigs!!?? - Guinea Pig Cages
March 10, 2023 - I was reading that pine or cedar shavings and others are toxic to guinea pigs because they have phenols that cause problems for the guinea pigs' respiratory system. But I also read in a couple of pages that pine shavings can only be used as guinea pig bedding only if it is baked first, since this removes all the phenols.

How to Make Waterproof Guinea Pig Fleece Bedding | Craft me Happy!: How to Make Waterproof Guinea Pig Fleece Bedding
My current litter tray is 0.18m², but my full cage is 0.9m². At the moment I use 20kg of paper-based bedding a year, which costs me £41. If I were to fill my 0.9m² cage with Fitch it would cost me £205 a year. So that's an annual saving of £111.50, plus the savings I made by repurposing usable parts of my cage liners the second time around. I'm pretty pleased with that!
