Oil vs. Grease for Lubrication | Glock Forum
I go with the manufacturer recommendation, since they know the guns best, and they hold the warranty. I oil my Glock. Click to expand... Glock uses grease and I grease the same areas...However, I use oil on the connector per Glock instructions.

Grease vs. Oil vs. CLP | Glock Talk
Old railed P226 models have a TON of aluminum rail and they are best lubed with grease usually. An M1 Garand or M14 or Mini 14 is best lubed with grease in my experience. A Glock is fine either way. On 22LR guns, I prefer a CLP oil that has ...

To Grease or Not to Grease | Glock Talk

Grease Or Oil ? | Glock Forum
Where are the grease points? Lastly if I was to stay with oil, what is the best choice you believe with oil? Right now I use Hoppes. ... Oh, and just to be clear I'm not talking about the barrel, mainly the slide points. ... I clean and lube my Glocks pretty much just like the Hickok45 videos on You Tube (2 videos). Works great! There is also a Glock lubrication video by James Yeager on You Tube where he slaps Gun Butter on points of the gun, but to me, he puts too much grease on the gun...Glocks don't really need too much from my experience.

My firearms should be greased or not question…..for the experts…. | BobIsTheOilGuy
February 23, 2024 - I use Enos slide glide for most of my grease needs. That said, I use about a gallon (I shoot a lot and clean a lot) a year of BreakFree CLP as it does most of what is needed. For specific oiling, I have a needle dropper filled with Mobil 1 5w30. I drop a dab of oil on all the metal parts of my plastic guns (Glock, Shadow Systems,HK USP's, M&P, Sig 365) but the oil truly shines with the metal frame guns like my Sig P series (220's, 229's, 226's) and my 1911's.

... For a Glock? Don't use grease - use a light weight gun oil. Glock's design and metal treatment make friction and corrosion minor concerns so a light weight oil is all that is needed and it will capture less dirt/debris than grease will.

Best Gun Oil & Grease [2024 Guide to Save your Gun]
Grease is for parts that scrape together with some pressure, like the sliderails and where the barrelscrapes against the slide. Grease those parts and you won't have to re-lube them nearly as much as when you use oil.

Grease versus Oil. | MP-Pistol Forum
OK, these modern, polymer pistols seem to only be oiled, whereas many of the All Metal pistols, from just a few years ago and those from 100 year old technology, typically used grease on the rails and oil on everything else. The old adage of, "If it slides, Grease iI, if it Rotates, Oil It" seeed to go away after the Glock came out on the market.

Gun Grease or Gun Oil?|MIL-COMM
It’s meant to be polished into the metal not globbed on, and the effect is a drier finish than oil, which attracts less firing debris. And the most effective gun grease or gun oil lubricants don’t just sit on top of the metal — you want a lube product that actually penetrates and treats the metal’s microscopic imperfections.

Gun Grease Evaluation | Glock Pro Forums
I really think that I would rather have petro-based lubricant on my full auto M16 as opposed to a vegetable oil. (if I had one) Not sure of the long term effects, but I can say it seems to be better at not attracting as much lint and fuzzy stuff as petrol does on my EDC, which is shot twice a year, lately. I personally like Lithium based grease for many applications, have never thought to try it on a gun, but seems like a good idea.

August 31, 2020 - I've never really been able to figure out when/where I should be using grease (like lithium gun grease), and when/where I should be applying a more liquid lube, like the oils. Does it even really matter? Thanks for the replies.

[Mature Content] r/guns on Reddit: Grease vs Oil: When to use one or both?
December 13, 2023 -

Continuing in my seemingly never ending endeavor to simplify the chemicals on my bench, when is grease more appropriate than oil, and vise versa? This will obviously get a billion different answers, most people seem to use only oil, and some only grease. Personally I only use Hoppes no.9 lubricating oil (not the bore solvent), comes in a nice little squeeze bottle with a needle tip. However I have had people tell me over the use to use it in A) the rails on a bolt action, and B) the rotating surfaces of an o/u shotgun. And they never specified exactly what kind of grease so I just figure bearing grease, white lithium, marine, etc; pretty much any general purpose grease from a grease gun. So My understanding is that grease is probably better in low speed, high friction areas. For example on an AR it would probably be better to put oil on the bolt and inside mechanisms, whereas grease would do better on the charging handle maybe?

Just kind of curious what everyone personally thinks/ uses, this is one of those topics you'll never get the same answer twice.

P.S I use no.9 bore solvent and BS gun scrubber. Been wanting to switch all three to a CLP, any good suggestions? Im just worried that it won't be as good of a solvent or lubricant as what I already use. (though Im not worried about the protection part, I use BC barricade since it doesn't leave residue, and I wont be changing that, eg I am only worried about the inside of the gun)

Should grease be used in place of oil on certain parts of firearms? - Quora
One rule of thumb I learned in the military, if it slides, lightly grease it. If there are wear marks on the metal, grease it, If it rotates, oil it. But, you should always read you owners manual.

Oil works better where you might need a bit of seepage, grease where you don't want seepage. I had Breakfree LPS seep into my 788 bolt and gum it so badly it would not fire. It's off my list also.

Depends on the gun. Grease for Glocks and HKs, oil for tightly-fitted 1911s. I've started using a very light application of grease on my Sigs and Berettas due to the oil migrating off the frame rails in pretty short order, regardless of what I use.

Gun Lubrication: Grease vs Oil - XF-7 - Which is Better
April 7, 2021 - Viscosity is the main difference between grease vs. oil for gun lubrication. Gun oils generally have a lower viscosity, meaning they are thinner and more prone to running and dripping. Grease has a higher viscosity, meaning it’s thicker in consistency, almost more like a gel.
