Hi,
I’m new to my freelance career. I’ve had two clients who I’ve helped write the copy for their websites. I have a small portfolio and I do article writing on the side to keep myself writing and engaged in topics that I like, though admittedly its more of a hobby. I was laid off from my full time sales/logistics career in September and I told myself I never want to go back to logistics again. I’d much rather use my english degree and continue going down the freelance rabbit hole. Every time I find a new website that promotes freelance work, like Upwork or Hustlewing, I investigate it. None of them seem to be worthwhile. Today I found guru.com and I think it might be legit? I might be too new to the industry to make a sturdy profile.
So how does someone like me find more work? People say word of mouth, and I am doing everything I can to promote myself. I’m even taking on volunteer writing work to help different non-profits with copywriting and editing, so that my portfolio/resume has more worthwhile experiences on it. But I’m struggling and I want to find sincere good work.
Any pointers would be great!
