H is the designation given for Hexacore processors, so the i7 8750h designates its as an 8th gen i7 6-core processor. The U is the designation for the ultra low energy processors, and are usually reserved for ultrabooks and the like. These are usually quadcores (at the max) and while they can be good, they are usually about a tier down compared to the H series. The i7 8650u is about 3% slower than the previous gen i7 7700hq, but it has a 15w tdp (the amount of power it draws under load) vs the 7700hq's 45w tdp. G processors are the kaby lake chips that have vega graphics built in, and while those are fine, I wouldnt recommend them if the h series is out of range. All in all, The U series should be fine for what you have listed, as long as you get a newer i7 model. The other option is to get the i5 8300h, which will perform slightly better, but will run hotter and likely be a "bigger" laptop, although it is usually cheaper. That said, whats the price range for you, and where are you located? Additionally, is this laptop going to be going to class or work with you every day, or will it stay on a desk constantly? August 30, 2019 -

I am buying a laptop and I'll be using it for designing engineering models, running simulations and mathematical models. I know that H processor like i7-8550H is the best option but they are out of my range. Will the U processors work fine for me? I have no idea, what I mean is will the U processor be able to handle the pressure? Will it run properly? Will it overheat to easily?

r/GamingLaptops on Reddit: Intel HX vs Intel H vs Ryzen HS
June 11, 2024 -

I've been trying to buy a laptop which is needed for my use: modern gaming with work use (revit/autocad/sketchup/solidworks) and also music production (ableton/fl studio)

My budget is merely around 2000sgd (1500usd) and im planning to buy during november/black friday sales.

So far for the specs, im set in using GTX 4050/4060 (whichever is the cheapest atm) and also a 32gb RAM/1tb storage.

However for the processor, I'm a bit curious whether an HX series or an H series is worth it depending on my needs.

From my understanding, the HX is definitely better than the H in terms of performance but the only problem is portability (it uses a lot of power so battery life is very bad) I don't really plan to use this outside without a charger.

However, is this something that I should be worried about if I want to use this laptop for 5+ years? Is there a way for me to "undervolt" an HX? What are the pros and cons if i own a laptop with an HX processor (since this is the one that I actually want) Forgive me for not knowing much since it's my first time owning a gaming laptop.. any advice would be helpful

February 9, 2023 - In fact, they're pretty much as good as it gets for laptops.
