Jonathan Groff’s Spitting King George🤴| Hamilton - You'll ...
▸ I Know Him (2/2) ▸ This brief but impactful (again IHMO) comes at a important moment in the musical. ▸ It was also performed best, IMHO, by 2024 Tony Award winner Jonathan Groff (again no disrespect to ALL the other amazing singers who took on the same role as King George III.) ▸ It follows the resignation of George Washington as president and the election of John Adams as his successor. ▸ The brilliant Jonathan Groff’s performance here is King George III’s reaction to the news that Washington, his old rival, has stepped down voluntarily from power. ▸ This is a concept strange and puzzling to the monarch, who can’t understand why anyone would give up control. ▸ The song is both humorous and critical, showcasing King George’s disbelief and disdain for the young American nation’s political process. ▸ Jonathan Groff’s performance of “I Know Him” is marked by a perfectly playful yet ‘intimidating tone. ▸ The song is relatively short, but Groff’s performance leaves a lasting impression, right #groffsauce fans? ▸ Jonathan Groff’s performance ‘lifted’ the song (well every song by him), making it a standout moment in “Hamilton.(IMHO)” 🔻 ▸ I do not own any of this audio or video (if any is shown). ▸ All and any of the video or audio are copyrighted to its owner(s), and I made this for personal home use and educational and non-profit purposes only. 🔻 #broadway #hamilton #musical #linmanuelmiranda #jonathangroff #KingGeorgeIII #iknowhim #georgewashington #johnadams #power #monarch #soundtrack #songs #revolutionarywar #foundingfathers #performance #vocals #lyrics #fyp #foryou #nostalgic #nostalgia @maxi-dixie-normous® | TikTok

r/hamiltonmusical on Reddit: The actors who played Washington & King George were replaced by Chris Jackson and Jonathan Groff. Why?
July 25, 2020 -
Does anyone know why Isaiah Johnson and Brian d'Arcy were replaced on the run-up to Broadway?
Johnson has since gone on to tour with Hamilton, and Groff regularly refers to d'Arcy in glowing terms so it seems to have been amicable, but it's remarkable to me that these parts were cut when so much of the rest of the early cast stayed consistent.

The original King George had prior obligations in another broadway show for which he was nominated for a Tony. But Groff took inspiration from his portrayal and ran with it. Not sure about George Washington though. You can read about it in the book- “Hamilton: The Revolution.”I am currently reading it and it’s fantastic.

Chris Jackson is Lin's BFF. He often tells the story of when Lin started writing Hamilton he told Chris he would be playing Washington.

Brian d’Arcy James, Jonathan Groff, and Andrew Rannells on Playing Hamilton Fan Favorite King George III
January 14, 2016 - The character of King George III appears in Hamilton for just nine minutes — and spends only six minutes and 45 seconds of that time actually singing. (The other two minutes and change are devoted to activities like strutting and doing a scene-stealing dance during “The Reynolds Pamphlet.”) Yet despite George’s appearances being brief, he’s become one of the most-beloved characters in the show. And unlike most roles in Hamilton, three different actors ...
