My partner noticed what looked like a flimsy piece of paper on the driver’s side window, but before he could get a good look it flew off into the highway. It was dark, so we didn’t even notice it until we were already driving.
We have no idea if it was even a ticket (aren’t they usually put on the dashboard?). We also don’t know where we could’ve gotten one since we ran a bunch of errands that day.
I tried checking online, but the site says I need a ticket number which I obviously don’t have. Is there a way to just look it up by my license plate to see if anything shows up?
First parking ticket of my life was sadly incurred by parking overnight on Emerson st. Apparently it’s a “through highway” and you can’t park there between 2 AM and 7 AM. I’ve never had any issues prior so it was a surprise.
Because this is my first ticket, is there a way to dispute it with the city (somehow get a warning only)? Or do I just have to pay it and move on?
UPDATE: Called into the phone line for the city of Hamilton and was greeted by a super friendly worker who took my case and referred me to a screening officer. I chose to receive communication by email, and got the notification today.
“In cases where this is the first time the ticket has been issued to the license plate we provide a one-time courtesy cancellation. Please be advised that we have cancelled the tickets as a one time courtesy. The same courtesy will not be provided again.”
My mom got a parking ticket but she is now in a long term care home and will never drive again. What happens if it goes unpaid?
EDIT:
To be clear, there was always a 99% chance I would pay it. I mean, Hamilton could certainly use the money to:
fix the roads
help the homeless problem
clean the polluted air so we can breathe
etc...
I was only asking out of curiosity since I know that Vancouver prevents your plates from being renewed (or something like that) and I wasn't sure if Hamilton had the policy.
