Could someone please tell be the best handheld to run steam games right now
Steam Deck has an easier to use interface and is pretty much pick up and play, with the tinkering being optional. The ROG Ally is quite a bit more powerful, but comes with windows by default, so it will take a bit more tinkering to get it in a similar state to the deck, heck, you could even install the Steam deck operating system (steamos) if you wanted to. Asus support is also a bit more iffy compared to Valve, and the Ally is prone to having more defects than the Deck. More on reddit.com
Nintendo Switch OLED or Windows Handheld PC (Steam Deck, AYA NEO, OneXplayer) in 2022?
Maybe it helps those who are concerned. 2 months ago I stayed in front of the same choice, I had Nintendo Switch, I played it from time to time especially in journeys, but I desperately wanted to change it for many reasons, what I most didn't like in Switch is the screen, it was the pain for me reading almost any text in some RPGs or games with loads of small elements (e.g. Children of Morta), so I did for myself a tough choice and spent about $1.5k to buy Onexplayer i7 1195G (from Aliexpress with 30% taxes), it was a bit painful process because I was going to unknown paying huge money and I hadn't had any GPD devices before to compare. Many times I considered that I needed to cancel the delivery, but I waited and waited for the package. Now when I played probably 50% of GamePass games on it and bought 10-15th ones on Steam with huge discounts for the last month, amazed by the beautiful screen in terms of size and colors and always having with me the device where I can play easily Grim Dawn during the flight which I experienced only this month in my life, I would definitely say, there will be no Switch at my home anymore. I only see the case with Switch if I would like games like Zelda, Mario, but it is not mine I grew up with Baldur Gates, Diablo, Doom, and so on. So I would strongly recommend only a GPD device if you are in a similar situation. I fell in love with Onexplayer and I am happy that I didn't spend money on OLED version of Nintendo. if you mainly care about performance get the Ally high refresh rate gaming? also ally xbox game pass or multiplayer games with anti cheat? ally indie games? single player games that are easier to run? Steam deck OLED matters more than anything else? steam deck The Steam Deck is the go-to for lightweight games like indies or emulation. Mostly due to the pretty colors of the OLED screen and the extremely battery efficient setup it has. Its hardware is aging though and many new triple A releases can not be run at a playable speed on it. SteamOS is also its biggest positive feature and some of the heaviest drawbacks, depending on the type of gamer you are. Multiplayer games with anti-cheat generally do not run on it, any competitive shooter like valorant, call of duty, etc can not run on it. On the other hand SteamOS has some great advantages over windows, like a small performance uplift in some games, it has less bloat, it has a functioning sleep mode, and the interface is really simple to use. The Ally on the other hand has a decent chunk more performance (assuming you get the z1e version), as well as native windows support. It also has a higher refresh rate screen, at 120hz vs 90hz on the Steam Deck. VRR also means that games will look a lot smoother at ~45+ fps compared to the steam deck. Being a windows device, the Ally also gets support for AI framegen features like AFMF. Gamepass is also a pretty big plus on the Ally if you are at all interested in it. While it's not impossible to install third party launchers like Epic Games Store, GOG, or the EA App on the Steam Deck, it's much simpler on the Ally. The battery life on the Ally sucks though, and it's nearly impossible to get more than 2 hours out of it, even on lower power profiles. Personally, I'm taking the Ally every time. It's usually cheaper, it's more powerful, I care more about 120hz refresh rate than an OLED screen, and I prefer windows. The Ally's downsides can also be mitigated if you're willing to spend some time and money. There's a 2$ adapter board that lets you install full sized SSDs in the Ally, making storage upgrades cheaper than on the Steam Deck. There's also a 74wh battery mod that's ~50$ and doubles your battery life. I can totally see why people go for the Steam Deck though, it's a much simpler device to use, and it gets out of the way so you can just focus on gaming, provided the games you wanna play run on it.
