Ive read from various sources that harbor freight consumables such as cutoff wheels are known for exploding.
Is this true/ a common occurrence? I just bought myself a hercules flap disc and a five pack of baur cutoff wheels, both rated for 13,500 rpms and my grinder is rated for 11,500 im pretty sure (baur cordless brushless grinder)
If this is true, should I return them? Ive got them for DIY projects, so they wont be used every day, and they wont be used brutally.

Gone through 4 10-packs of Hercules cutoff wheels on aluminum, stainless, and mild steel. Never had one blow up, but do your homework on how they operate, don't apply excessive load, be it side or otherwise, and keep the individual cutoff wheels to only one material use.

I would like to repair my Mustang’s frame rail rot and shock tower rust. The standard procedure is to cut out the bad areas and weld in new patches from repair kits (it’s a rite of passage).
Should I get a cheap corded 4.5” angle grinder from Harbor Freight, spend more on a corded brand, or spend even more on a cordless brand? (I currently have the Milwaukee Fuel impacts and ratchets).

The nice thing about the harbor freight grinders is they are so cheap you can own 3 and not have to swap between cut off wheel, flap sander, and wire wheel. U did the quarter panels on an f150 with all HFT grinders. I also have a cordless that is smoother and 5x the price. Works the same IMHO.

I’m not entirely sure this is the right sub for this, and I am pretty sure this is my own stupidity, but I’m having trouble getting grinder wheels to work on my grinder. I just got the cordless Hercules grinder and it works great with the wheel it comes with and any other “grinding” (1/4”) wheels. But any cutoff wheels that are thinner than that won’t attach properly. The nut that screws on to secure it won’t tighten far enough. I feel like this is a user error, because there’s no way they only take one wheel thickness. And all of the wheels are 4.5 or 5 inches as the grinder suggests, with a 7/8” arbor. Do I need a spacer or something? And I have tried the nut flipped, as it protrudes a little more on one side. I’ve also tried them on a corded craftsman grinder with the same results. Thank you for the help, my apologies if this is a simple fix that I’m over looking. (First picture is the included one that works fine, other two are the ones in question)

I don't have that specific grinder, but I would think they are all setup the same way. There is a lower flange that sits underneath the wheel (looking down from the threaded end of the arbor) and attaches to the arbor bolt/head. When you put the wheel on the arbor, the lower flange has a circular pattern that the center hole in the wheel should fit over and align flush with. Then, as you tighten the nut, it will make contact with the wheel just outside that inner circle, and clamp it tight. The side of the nut that has the protrusion should be pointing away from the wheel, not towards it. If you can't get it to tighten with either side of the nut facing the wheel, take a picture of the wheel resting on the arbor without the nut attached. Is it possible yours didn't come with the lower flange and you were able to tighten the thicker wheel onto the arbor head directly?

Yeah, our shop has been through many of them. They cut metal just fine... If you're going to be using it consistently and for long periods of time I would buy a nicer angle grinder. These have short duty cycles and do not feel as balanced / powerful as nicer brands. If you need a grinder for 10 minutes a week this is an excellent option.
