I’ve been wanting to try this grinder for cutting metal only. But I would like to know if people liked this grinder.
Hey everyone!
I've moved a few walls in my basement which were nailed into the concrete ground. The nails were mostly cut through and flush with the concrete. A few have a bit of a jagged edge sticking out yet though. I've tried a few different techniques with tools I have on hand but no luck.
So I'm looking at a really cheap angle grinder from Harbor Freight. $10 cheap. Couldn't figure out hyperlink, sorry :(

I only need it for these like 2 nails (seriously 2) and then I have no idea when I would use it next. It just feels too cheap, too good to be true, even with great reviews... these nails are 1/4 diameter btw. So, what do y'all think?

I would like to repair my Mustang’s frame rail rot and shock tower rust. The standard procedure is to cut out the bad areas and weld in new patches from repair kits (it’s a rite of passage).
Should I get a cheap corded 4.5” angle grinder from Harbor Freight, spend more on a corded brand, or spend even more on a cordless brand? (I currently have the Milwaukee Fuel impacts and ratchets).
I need to pick-up an angle grinder. I am on a budget, but if I'm going to get something, I want something that will last a while (sharpening mower blades!) I probably can't get brushless right now. Should I head out to Harbor Freight or drive right past it and go to Lowe's? What exactly should I be looking for?
BTW - I am left-handed. Are there models that the handle on the side can be adjusted?
Thank you.
Interested in the Hercules Cordless Hercules Angle Grinder that has the on/off switch and NOT the one with the pressure grip squeeze handle. Had been looking at major brand names for a larger upcoming project when family member suggested I consider Harbor Freight Tools. Wanting to know if anyone has had good or bad experiences, any battery issues or charging issues?
Angle Grinder will be used with wire brushes and pads to remove rust from large trailer that was parked out in the elements so I am able to repaint the trailer after rust has been removed.
Potentially interested in continuing pieces from Hercules line as well such as eventually adding a circular saw, drill, and sander depending on if the line is worth it.
I need to cut some bolts off my car. Any other future uses would also probably be automotive related also.
I'm wondering what's the best one for the price to go with.
39.99 BAUER 8 Amp 4-1/2 In. Trigger Grip Angle Grinder
44.99 HERCULES 7 Amp 4-1/2 In. Slide Switch Angle Grinder
49.99 BAUER 8 Amp 4-1/2 In. Paddle Switch Angle Grinder
69.99 HERCULES 11 Amp 4-1/2 In. Paddle Switch Angle Grinder
(Another brand?)
Sure more power will be better but do I really need it? Would I notice a big difference from 7, 8, 11 amp?
The $70 seems a bit much for what I need and if I'll hardly use it later on.
Is one type of switch better / safer to use the the others?
Is the 7Amp Hercules a better tool then the 8 amp Bauer?
Recommendations for either one? Pros and cons to keep in mind?
I'm trying to choose between three different setups right now for die grinders.
I have my eyes set on the following right now:
-
Hercules Corded Electric for $56 (during the upcoming Parking Lot Sale in March)
Pros are that it's Electric so I can take it really anywhere I have access to an outlet. 25000 RPM and 4 Amp Motor. Directs air over work blowing debris away. I have a Hercules Corded Polisher and I like it.
Cons are that's it's big and bulky. Might be tough for tight areas or angles. 90 day warranty. Two wrenches for collet changes.
2. Craftsman Pneumatic for $65 (includes a grinding stone set rated for 25000 RPM and total cost is with $15 off $75 coupon).
Pros are that it has a 3 year warranty. Insulated body and spindle lock for single wrench collet changes. 21000 RPM and 4.5 CFM @ 90 PSI. I have the Craftsman Pneumatic Air Hammer and the grip is awesome and I really like the tool.
Cons are that it's right angle so might be awkward for some uses in tight deep spaces. Limited to use where I have compressor access.
3. McGraw Pneumatic Right Angle & McGraw Pneumatic Extended for about $45.50 (the Right Angle is on sale for $20 for ITC right now and the Extended can be had this weekend for $24.50 with 15% off or I can wait for a potentially better deal on it with some patience).
Pros are that should have no issues with access as I'd have both 90 degrees and straight with extended 3.5" reach. Rated to 20000 RPM and 2.9 CFM @ 90 PSI and 25000 RPM and 3.0 CFM @ 90 PSI. Insulated body. Includes 1/8" collets.
Cons are that limited to use where I have compressor access. Two wrench collet changes. 90 day warranty. McGraw is the Better tier of their Good, Better, Best system but I've never used any of their air tools before.
Admittedly most use of my die grinder would be in my workshop where I have my compressor. Even though most of my tools are battery, I still have a few corded or pneumatic.
I guess to be truly fair, I should add $10 to #1 and #3 for buying the grinding stones. Which would bring prices to $66 for #1, $65 for #2, and $55.50 for #3.
Open to all suggestions and recommendations.
I need a mini angle die grinder to clean the inside of rims to apply sticky weights but im torn between the McGraw and the Chief. Will the McGraw hold up to daily use in a shop?
Harbor freight has this meat grinder on clearance for $45, but it also pairs with their 15% off coupon. I picked it up for $38, I think it’ll be a great intro for me
Bought a "1/2 horse" HF bench grinder for $55 and 2 wire wheels, one steel, one brass for $10 each. Put them together, tried to use them . . . absolute crap. Failed in under 30 minutes. So frustrating.
I want an old-school style: platform with belt drive, looks like it was made during WW2.
I bought a Hercules HE65 13 Amp angle Grinder. I was thinking about getting a cheaper one but saw that this one was on sale for members for $79. I signed up for the membership but didn’t realize that it was another $30 for the membership. I also paid an extra $25 for a 1yr warranty since it only came with 90 days. Would I be better off returning everything, canceling the membership (if even possible) and going with a more reputable brand like dewalt or Mikita or someone that’s known to have good angle grinders + warranty for my $140ish? Or should I just be happy. I don’t buy tools very often and so I don’t know that the membership is actually worth it to me to be honest. I prefer to buy once and not have to think about it again for a long time which is why I’m going with corded. Don’t want batteries. Thoughts?
Looking for options outside of the $500 metabos. Checking out the viability, am I going to burn it out in the first week or does it last a while?
Bauer appreciation post. Went through a layer of paint and epoxy no problem. $20 for the 7 amp grinder on sale and $30 for the 4.5" diamond wheel is hard to beat. Took probably 4 hours total.
