Hey everyone!

I've moved a few walls in my basement which were nailed into the concrete ground. The nails were mostly cut through and flush with the concrete. A few have a bit of a jagged edge sticking out yet though. I've tried a few different techniques with tools I have on hand but no luck.

So I'm looking at a really cheap angle grinder from Harbor Freight. $10 cheap. Couldn't figure out hyperlink, sorry :(

I only need it for these like 2 nails (seriously 2) and then I have no idea when I would use it next. It just feels too cheap, too good to be true, even with great reviews... these nails are 1/4 diameter btw. So, what do y'all think?

Harbor Freight tools can be super cheap for a reason, but often times for someone like you or a job like this that's plenty fine. If it breaks after awhile are you really out anything? Yeah yeah we shouldn't be buying disposable tools, but sometimes you gotta.

I have that. It’s louder than better grinders. The arbor has run out, and creates more vibration than better grinders. But for occasional, one off jobs……it’s fine.

I use the cheapo Harbor Freight grinder for nasty jobs that kill power tools. I used a wire cup to grind rust off a dozen steel storage boxes - I had so much rust dust in the air it looked like smoke bomb in our back yard.

I need to pick-up an angle grinder. I am on a budget, but if I'm going to get something, I want something that will last a while (sharpening mower blades!) I probably can't get brushless right now. Should I head out to Harbor Freight or drive right past it and go to Lowe's? What exactly should I be looking for?

BTW - I am left-handed. Are there models that the handle on the side can be adjusted?

I have the blue Chicago Electric HF one ($30). It's seen plenty of use for dumb stuff, from grinding out transmission bellhousings (don't ask) to cutting square tube to fix my grill (again, don't ask). I've had it for years, and it's still excellent. I wouldn't buy a cordless one, they never quite seem to have the "oomph" of the corded variety -- and I say that having tried the 20v Dewalt one. The handle can be screwed to the left, right, or top of the head of the grinder, it's pretty simple to operate, and if you burn it out -- you're only out $30. I haven't tried the Hercules ones, but I would guess that they're also pretty damn good. But why spend more? The flappy paddle on the blue Chicago Electric is pretty nice to have as well, though I think an electric brake would be nice. While we're talking grinders though, get yourself some safety gear. Wheels can and will explode, and you really don't want to be in the way of the debris following. At a minimum safety glasses, because you don't want rust in your eye that needs drilled out.

If you're only going to use it a handful of times a year I would say a hf. If you plan on cutting metal or using it more often just get a used name brand.

I would like to repair my Mustang’s frame rail rot and shock tower rust. The standard procedure is to cut out the bad areas and weld in new patches from repair kits (it’s a rite of passage).

Should I get a cheap corded 4.5” angle grinder from Harbor Freight, spend more on a corded brand, or spend even more on a cordless brand? (I currently have the Milwaukee Fuel impacts and ratchets).

I went cheap corded and have no regrets. These things rip through batteries and I'm never using it where there is no electricity.

The nice thing about the harbor freight grinders is they are so cheap you can own 3 and not have to swap between cut off wheel, flap sander, and wire wheel. U did the quarter panels on an f150 with all HFT grinders. I also have a cordless that is smoother and 5x the price. Works the same IMHO.

Yeah, our shop has been through many of them. They cut metal just fine... If you're going to be using it consistently and for long periods of time I would buy a nicer angle grinder. These have short duty cycles and do not feel as balanced / powerful as nicer brands. If you need a grinder for 10 minutes a week this is an excellent option.

HFs most expensive corded 4 1/2" grinder right now is $69.95 rated at 11 amps. and another for $59.95 rated at 13 amps. I wonder how well the top end models perform? Comparable with Milwaukee , DeWalt about the same price? ... Let the games begin... ... I've gone through two of them so far. About 15 minutes use out of each. But for as long as they last, they do get the job done. I'll buy another for the next "dirty" job I have but as with all things Harbor Freight, I don't expect too much for $20 bucks and I'm never disappointed.

Interested in the Hercules Cordless Hercules Angle Grinder that has the on/off switch and NOT the one with the pressure grip squeeze handle. Had been looking at major brand names for a larger upcoming project when family member suggested I consider Harbor Freight Tools. Wanting to know if anyone has had good or bad experiences, any battery issues or charging issues?
Angle Grinder will be used with wire brushes and pads to remove rust from large trailer that was parked out in the elements so I am able to repaint the trailer after rust has been removed.

Potentially interested in continuing pieces from Hercules line as well such as eventually adding a circular saw, drill, and sander depending on if the line is worth it.

Or you can do 3 $10 ones and just swap as soon as one gets hot Overheating any grinder’s motor or tranny will kill it Cordless grinders are best for small, quick, niche jobs where running an extension cord is a PITA

I'm replacing my at home tools(ryobi) with Herc when they fail. I've been very impressed with the 20V Drill, Impact driver and Circular saw. The tire shop down the street has all hurc impact wrenches, and have said they haven't have any problems. And they are all daily use. 5 year warranty. Unless I find out something horrible about them, I'm going to keep switching. I'd give a lot for a nail gun.
