How long is Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone 3D (Fathom 2025)?
What is Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone 3D (Fathom 2025) about?
For the celebration of the “Goblet of Fire” 20th Anniversary, my theater was doing a mini marathon leading up to it with the movies.
This was the first time I had seen the Philosopher’s Stone version as I grew up in the US watching the “Sorcerer’s Stone”
The 3D was amazing. I hadn’t seen the first movie in theaters since 2001 so this was a blast to go to with my girlfriend.
Did anyone else see their theaters showing the films like this?
I can’t link the info here so the link is in the comments. The first 4 Harry Potter movies will be returning to select theaters in February 2025, and for the first time ever Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone will in 3D and 4DX.
I saw Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (UK Version) in theaters last night. Yes, I've seen this movie countless times, but what made me go watch it in the theater was the fact that it was releasing in 3D and 4DX.
I am a fan of both the 3D and 4DX formats, mostly 4DX. I have seen quite a few films in 4DX, including: Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Extended Versions, Inside Out 2, Spider-Man No Way Home and Aquaman. Watching The Phantom Menace actually made me a big fan of 4DX, as it made the movie like an interactive rollercoaster.
Onto 3D, I know that 3D movies turn away many people, but when I found out that the first Harry Potter film was converted to 3D, I know it would be done right because it's Harry Potter, and Warner Bros would do a conversion right for this movie.
Now to my review, the combination of 3D and 4DX for Harry Potter makes it THE DEFINITIVE WAY TO WATCH THIS MOVIE. I am not joking when I say this experience makes you feel like you are in the movie, which made me feel like I was watching it for the very first time because of the new surprises that the 3D and 4DX was presenting to me. I'll start with the 4DX Experience. This has some of the best 4DX I've experienced since I saw Return of the King. Some key moments were the rumbling in the Dursley's home when the letters were flying in, when Harry was getting his first wand at Olivander's shop, and how he accidentally blew up a few things in his shop, the slight rumbling on the train to Hogwarts, the REAL SNOW EFFECT during the scene when Hagrid is bringing a Christmas tree into Hogwarts in the snow and Everytime the camera swept through Hogwarts, it was like you were on a rollercoaster! The best parts were the quidditch match, the troll in the bathroom and the last act of the movie. Those scenes were the most engaging part of the movie and the seats moved around the most during those scenes!
As for the 3D, it has some of the best 3D effects I have ever seen. Some key moments were the floating candles in the dining hall, the floating pumpkins in the dining hall, the snow when Hagrid is bringing in the Christmas tree, and when Malfoy threw the rememberall and Harry chased after it. Even the scene where Hagrid meets Harry and the Dursley's has really good 3D separation. The best scene in 3D was definitely the quidditch match and everything with THE GOLDEN SNITCH. When Harry was training to be a seeker, the golden snitch literally POPPED OUT OF THE SCREEN! The same thing happened in the quidditch match when the golden snitch was in front of the camera, it popped out of the screen again! The 3D was also very cool when each player and ball zoomed past the screen in the quidditch match. Also yes, the last act of the movie was very good in 3D. The flying key scene was really well done, and the Knights Chess match had really good 3D separation. When the chess pieces were destroyed, the debris literally popped out of the screen! I will say, sometimes there's some double images during wide shots, but it's not that big of an issue.
All in all, I will say that I definitely recommend this experience to anyone who is interested in it. This experience had only 1 showtime, so Warner Bros and Fathom events should bring this back for the Philosopher's Stone again. I hope Warner Bros and Fathom Events convert and release all the Harry Potter movies to 3D, and I hope Warner Brothers will release the 3D version of the Philosopher's Stone for home video cause it's so well done, but I doubt it. The 4DX is awesome too. I will be watching the next 3 movies in 4DX, and I'm so excited! Did anyone else watch Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in these formats? Let me know!
