I remember my parents threw a Harry Potter themed birthday for me when I was ten. As such, some of these decor ideas might be a bit geared towards people younger than 21, but hopefully at least some of them will still work for you. - A curtain pattered like a brick wall over the doorway and a platform 9 3/4 sign. (You might want to leave the door open in case anyone takes a running start) - cake shaped like a snake. My mom made a really cool basilisk cake. And if you want to go the extra mile, you can make a mini Sword of Gryffindor to cut it with. - A sorting hat could be made using an old witch hat and two baby monitors. You hide one baby monitor in the room where the sorting ceremony is happening, and the other in another room elsewhere. Then get someone who does a good sorting hat voice to sort the party guests into the four houses. - Potion bottles. You can buy labels at the store pretty easily, and then just put them on various cool-shaped bottles. My mom filled our potion bottles with glitter glue, which ended up looking pretty cool, but it would probably be just as effective to use water with food coloring. - Take your broom out of the closet and display it somewhere. It's a broomstick now. - Print out a picture of Moaning Myrtle and put it in the bathroom. - Play the background music from the movies. Everything is ten times cooler with the right atmospheric music. - A few fun snack ideas: chocolate frogs (any chocolate that's vaguely in the shape of a frog will suffice. It's chocolate. Everyone loves it.) Bertie Bott's every flavor beans (can double as party game) Licorice wands (just licorice dipped in chocolate) Pumpkin pasties (you can find recipes online. Great for Fall.) Huffle Puffs (just cheeto puffs) Any candy that you can find a Harry Potter equivalent for. There are also some great ideas on Pinterest.
