Hello. So we are going to Universal soon and it is our first time. Are the wands worth getting? My kids are big HP fans but I have 4 kids and I heard they are expensive. only one can do at a time anyway right? So 1 between them?

Yes you should get a wand. Splitting should be fine, but your kids must be good about sharing. Most are interactive, you want those as they do the magic. Absolutely do the Wand Ceremony show too, and try to get picked. They do 1 person per show. It's randomish, but they love to select younger kids, people very dressed up for HP, and those who visiting for their 1st time and/or celebrating something. It's busier/harder to get picked in the morning, so strategically going later in the day works in your favor. My wife and I both got picked because we were celebrating our anniversary together. You can buy non interactive ones for like 15 bucks at Walmart, then order IR dots, you can get a pack of like 20 for like 25, and just stick them on the end of anything (cheap wand or I even saw someone use a pickle) and it will function the same as the interactive wands

I've been curious about them for a few weeks but has anyone gone into the specifics about how they work? I'm aware they trigger some sensors throughout the attraction but what's in them? Are they battery powered? Do they light up? Any sort of I sight would be appreciated.
I may just buy one online just to have one because I doubt I could ever afford to go, much less go out of state. Thank you in advance.

I have like 8 of them and they're dope. It's a reflective sensor on the tip. They can be finicky, but as you find the sweet spot for each spell it feels great. They also look and feel phenomenal, so they make great collection display pieces when not in the park.
