I've been hearing a lot of hype around using the Harvard formatting style on resumes, some claim it helps get through HR systems and achieves more success. I'd be especially interested to hear if anyone has switched and noticed a big change or if recruiters could share their two cents.
I created a free tool to generate Harvard-style resumes, ATS-compatible, in Spanish or English. Designed for those who need it most.
Hey everyone,
I've been following this subreddit for a while and I know many of you are job hunting, some for months. That situation hit close to home (for me and others), and as a developer, I decided to do something that could help concretely.
I launched harvcv.com, a free tool that lets you:
🧾 Generate a Harvard-style resume, clear, professional, and organized.
🧠 Compatible with ATS systems (those that many companies use to automatically filter resumes).
🌍 Available in Spanish or English, ideal for those looking for jobs here and abroad.
🔐 No registration and no data storage on any server — everything is saved locally in your browser.
📥 The result is a clean PDF, editable as many times as you want, and ready to share.
The idea is that you can adapt it for different positions in seconds, without paying anything, without relying on Word, without complicated templates or sites full of endless forms.
🤝 If this helps even one person take a step forward in their job search, it's already worth it.
And if you have ideas, suggestions, or find something to improve, I really appreciate the feedback.
Thanks for reading, and hopefully, this tool will bring you a little closer to that opportunity you're looking for.
EDIT: Added improvements requested and below, access to the site's Privacy Policy.
Before, Canva was the trend haha but now most of the people I know who are helping me find work are changing my resume to the Harvard standard template. Just asking, because my work is just words too, but it's not Canva. It's detailed too.
Wouldn't employers be surprised that our resumes look alike, or is that actually what's supposed to happen? I'm just really curious. Even the ATS-friendly stuff.
I kept seeing canva style format of template which most softwares recruiters uses doesn’t read properly in filtering out the thousands of resumes that they review everyday. Recruiters says harvard format is the easiest format to scan the resumes ftom to bottom both by humans and bots.
Hey there,
Here’s a link to Harvard’s resume guide, I think it’s amazing, I know the bot comments a list of resume links but I found this one and thought it was more helpful than anything I’ve seen out there, Direct link below;

A few days ago, I launched a free resume builder because I was tired of seeing sites that trick you with paywalls and watermarks just to download your own information. The response was incredible!
But many of you said the same thing: "The tool is great, but I wish the final resume looked more professional, like the templates used at top universities."
You were right.
So I spent the last few days completely overhauling it. I've rebuilt the entire resume template from the ground up to match the clean, professional "Jack's Template" style (similar to the classic Harvard/McKinsey formats).
The new version is now live, and it's better in every way:
✅ Brand-New "Jack's Template" Style: Get a polished, professional resume with perfect alignment, spacing, and a two-column layout that recruiters love.
✅ Fully Mobile Responsive: You can now build and edit your entire resume easily from your phone. The new interface is clean and intuitive on any device.
✅ Smarter & Faster: Your work is now automatically saved in your browser, and the AI features have loading skeletons so the app feels faster than ever.
And of course, everything from the first version is still there:
Download in PDF, Word, or Text.
No signup or login required.
No watermarks. No ads. No upsells.
It is, and always will be, 100% FREE.
If you used it before, come see the new look. If you're new, build a resume you can be proud of in just a few minutes.

Recently switched to the Harvard template but haven’t had any luck with it, should I find another? I am 21F in university. I typically only apply to retail because those are the only jobs that I can seem to land at the moment. I have worked at 3 retail stores and have 2 extracurricular activities that are on my resume.
I have been having an extremely difficult time finding jobs over the last two years for reasons I am not aware of. I literally can’t even get a call back these days and usually only get hired as seasonal. It is urgent that I work this summer.
Is the Harvard template outdated and are there any ones that are seeming to land people jobs?
When I put my resume on dice or monster they say that my file is to big what can I do to fix that?
Hello all,
Just trying to change my CV...again.
I've heard here and on sites that ATS does not like Headers. However, the Harvard Resume Template (which is also recommended here) has headers.
Headers, yay or nay?
thank you
Hello all, I have been looking online and getting different responses regarding the formatting of resumes.
Many people are saying that he format of a Harvard Resume Template should be used
https://careerservices.fas.harvard.edu/resources/bullet-point-resume-template/
And that no one should be using a canva template. And some people say the opposite. Whats everyone's actual experience with this?
Personally I been using canva templates and I have gotten no responses.
These resumes are not mine but just for reference.
