I have noticed this few weeks ago. HBO max started to deny me access when I’m using vpn It does this only when I try to watch house of dragon, which is even more strange.
Hoi! Im using NordVpn for couple of months now (switched from Surf shark for better speed) and it was working perfectly till yesterday. I watch Max in Switzerland using my polish account and VPN for Poland or Portugal(I found out it was working little better with same movies and language) Since yesterday I get the error that I'm using VPN and can't watch anything on TV and phone. I guess that Max updated their app... Any tips how to fix it? Should Nord update their app to fix it?
I’ve been trying to get a cheaper HBO Max subscription using a VPN, but I keep running into roadblocks. Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
What I tried:
VPN (Brazil)
• Managed to access the payment page, but it required a CPF (Brazilian tax ID) and a credit card. My credit card was marked as invalid.
2. VPN (Argentina)
• Prices displayed correctly on the homepage but redirected me to the US signup page with US pricing when trying to subscribe.
3. VPN(Colombia)
• Got to the payment page, but all my credit card attempts were declined.
4. Mobile App (with VPN to various countries)
• Couldn’t change the plan or subscribe—kept showing “plan change unavailable.”
Additional things I tried:
• Created fresh accounts and attempted to subscribe.
• Logged into an existing account and tried to change the subscription plan via settings.
None of these worked. Has anyone found a method that actually works for getting a cheaper HBO Max subscription?
So from the UK. No HBO Max available here. Have HBO Max subscription from a US bank account.
It worked for a few weeks and now it's just blocking me.
What do I need to do to get the VPN to keep working?
I'm traveling in China. We are using VPNs (or proxies?) with Shadowrocket to access the web.
My kid's absolute favorite movie is My Neighbor Totoro, which is on HBO Max in the US. When I connect through a US IP (it shows my IP in San Jose, CA), Max somehow still knows I'm in a different region and offers a different selection. Crucially, Totoro is no longer available.
What's going on here? Is there a way to figure out where they think I am? Why aren't they giving the US selection?
I'm using an iPad, if it matters.
Hbo max recently got available in my country but here it has near to none movies i wanna watch, when i use a US vpn there’s really good stuff but i cant play or download them since max detects the vpn. Any recommended free vpns which are hard to be detected or the region change thing will work here?
So I live in the Netherlands, and I have my VPN connected to Mexico. I go to hbomax.com... and it reroutes to hbomax.com/nl/nl
How tf does it know I'm in the Netherlands? Doesn't that defeat the whole point of having a VPN? Is there a way to circumvent this?
If I try to watch HBO Max with the VPN on USA, the app says it’s not available in my region. (It’s not available in my county). The thing is, if I set it to another country (for instance Portugal), it works, so it’s not as if HBO is blocking my VPN completely.
Can I fix it? I need HBO Max USA to watch Doctor Who.
If you are missing your favorite shows use a VPN when watching HBO max. Mine is set to the Dominican Republic and this is their selection
I’ve noticed in previous posts from our subreddit that our community members had some troubles while trying to access HBO MAX. For those who are unaware, recently they changed their name/brand to just MAX. Thus, I thought I would share some steps on how it could be resolved before reaching out to NordVPN customer support or submitting a new post here. Worth mentioning that I have tested my Android and Windows devices (NordVPN extension and application).
So here are the main troubleshooting steps:
Make sure your connection is not leaking any data, such as DNS, IPv6, and WebRTC leaks. You can always check your connection on the NordVPN website to see if it says "Protected" on the top page or use the dnsleaktest.com website.
Clear your browser cache. One common issue is the browser cache. Personally, I use a different browser for streaming and regular browsing, so I can clear the cache without losing any info. For streaming, I use Brave. You can learn how to clear your cache here:
Try connecting to a different server of the region you would like to access the streaming service. In this case, try using different US cities and, of course, clear your cache before accessing it.
Threat Protection feature rarely interferes with streaming service. It might help to disable it to check if the same issue will occur.
If you're using a mobile device (Android/iOS), try reinstalling the streaming service application while connected to the VPN server. This will update the application and clear the cache.
Disable device location services. Location service might interfere with streaming service accessibility, thus, preferably it should be disabled.
Disable the Anti-virus system. AV may force the DNS address to be ignored and the streaming service may not function properly as a result.
If you are using laptop/desktop computers, I would strongly recommend using the NordVPN extension. Since I am using Brave browser, I use an extension and it works perfectly accessing different streaming services.
Lastly, if you've tried everything mentioned above and in other posts written by our community, and you are still facing problems, reach out to NordVPN support via live chat on their website to confirm if the streaming service you are accessing is available at the moment.
Hope this helps! Stay safe, folks!
I have danish account on HBO max and im currently in Thailand and I just can get HBO max (and Disney+ also) to work with the NordVpn? Anybody who has experienced similar and knows how to fix it? 😅 It keeps saying “can’t connect - we’re having issues connecting to HBO max right now”.
Hi I have nordvpn and I’m trying to watch a show that’s only available on HBO Max USA. But everytime I set nordvpn to American servers it says it’s not available in my region… Does anyone have fix for this?… :(
I recently bought a Max account but most of the shows I want isn't available in my country but Max don't let me watch with using VPN is there anything I can do
pretty self explanatory, i use pandafan and windscribe as my main vpns which work for netflix but hbo max always shows the “service not available in your country” message no matter what server / vpn i use. how do you get around this :(
Traveling to Spain for two weeks and I may physically meltdown without seeing the finale of Barry + Succession.
Sounds like Max won't work outside the US.
Any way to solve for this? Anybody know a VPN that would work?
Can't we all just be one big happy planet and enjoy our TV moments together, regardless of continent!?
Hi. So it seems like The Last of Us drops at 9p PT/ET. I'm in eastern time and work nights so I was wondering if I could use a VPN in pacific time and watch the show earlier, before I go to work? It'd be through AppleTV or Firestick. Thanks for the help!
I am trying to ger cheap hbo, as hbo isnt available in my country. It always declines even PayPal with vpn. How to sort this out??!! Help!!
Hi guys!
I was trying to watch a live sport show on the HBO Max TV App and the VPN keeps getting detected, I tried with multiple servers, different TVs, checking if the apps are up to date and nothing is working, I read the support pages, tried those and unless i'm doing something wrong it isn't helping.
I just tested it and it also happens with VOD TV shows and Movies
If anyone has encountered this problem and was able to solve it, I'd be very thankful
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!
