Looking on Amazon the results are mixed. All I need is to be able to display the video output from a usb3.0 port to an hdmi monitor. Im using the existing hdmi port already and the usbc port apparently data only.
Im looking at something like this, but just curious if anyone had any specific recommendations of ones they have used in the past.

No. No. Let me explain why. High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) itself is a digital video + audio output. Inside, it has a controller that sends data specifically for HDMI monitors to read and display accordingly. Universal Series Bus (USB) is for transferring data between the computer and a peripheral. USB to HDMI exist because the HDMI display controller (peripheral) is external and can use the USB to receive data to display. In a sense, this is an external video card, just it cannot handle 3D graphics and any other true video card loads. HDMI to USB does not exist. It is impossible because the HDMI port on your computer is designed to send digital video content, not to receive data. USB is designed to both receive and send data between a peripheral, not video. You're basically asking me if a device that takes data, converts to video then HDMI video converted to data exist. TL;DR - HDMI sends data. USB sends and receives data. USB to HDMI works. I'm trying to find an adapter that will convert an existing on-board HDMI port on my computer (which is useless to me 99% of the time, since this is a tablet and I never plug it into a monitor/tv) into a USB port.
I can find LOADS of adapters that go the other direction (USB to HDMI) but I can't seem to find one that will convert an HDMI port to USB for some reason. I have to think this exists... Any help would be massively appreciated.

If you're short on USB ports, get a USB hub . An unused HDMI port won't hurt anything, and is incapable of functioning as a USB port.
