Is the Head First HTML with CSS and XHTML still a good starting point?
I don't know about that book specifically, but I can tell you that any book about front-end web development written in 2005 is going to be quite out of date. In 2005, Internet Explorer 6 was the most common browser; MS didn't even release IE7 until 2006. Not that it has any bearing on the HTML and CSS standards, but people who did web development back then (i.e. me) will tell you just how poorly standards were implemented. Most resources at that time would teach you how to look at what browser you were in and do different code for them. While it will teach you the basics of how HTML and CSS work, it won't cover any of the more modern semantic tags, any of the newer CSS features like Grid or Flex, and XHTML is far more strict than HTML5 is. HTML5 has long since superseded HTML 4 and XHTML. You should find a resource that teaches that. It doesn't have to be a book; there are plenty of web-based resources like FreeCodeCamp that will get you moving in the right direction without having to spend more money. More on reddit.com

imo the best resource(not a book) for learning css is https://css-for-js.dev/ It is a bit pricey, but it has 30 days refund guarantee. October 17, 2022Are these books still relevant? I heard the html and css were outdated, what resources/books would you suggest?
I have the Javascript book and I don't think it has ever helped me. I learnt JS on The Odin Project, where you get very hands on practise by doing projects. More on reddit.com
