I prefer the good ole hole in the ground. My fire pit is an oval. About 6ft by 4 ft. Lined with a ring of rock around the top weve dug out of the yard over the years. No maintenance. Nothing to worry about. No issues to have. If you wanna move it, just fill the hole. More on reddit.com

I’m tired of buying wood burning fire pits that rust. Prefer somewhat portable metal but could go with stone and a ring. All of the copper portables are on stainless steel or cast iron bases which rust, correct? I live on a lot which has pavers and grass. Prefer to put pit on the pavers but can construct on grass. Thanks in advance for the advice. I need it.

I am tired of buying the whatever Home Depot steel fir pit they have for $50-100 and needing to toss it out for scrap couple years later. Any suggestions for something with more longevity? Not so concerned about the price so long it will last a long time and is wood burning.

December 7, 2014 - The boiler plate steels are a bit different harder material & rated for higher heat/pressures vs A36 (sa36 in some places) & they (boiler plate) may need a bit different welding practices (for certifications but not req for outdoor fire pit.) The 1/4" stuff would be HEAVY and something as shown in 4'x4' would need 2 people to move or tractor.
