Moving to a new apartment soon and figure I could upgrade my bed. Every YouTuber and their mom is sponsored by helix so I figured I’d give it a shot. I was in the military for a while and suffer from severe lower back pain so I wanted something pretty high quality. But $3k (after discount) for a luxury bed seems like a scam. Has anyone bought their Elite series mattress and can vouch for this, or should I look elsewhere and save my money?
AVOID THIS BRAND - My opinion
I bought a king size luxe dusk. Expected it to provide good back support for a 6ft 180lb male. It felt great at first, but man does this thing break in a TON. Around 150 days in, my back is killing me it sags so much. The trial time frame is 100 days and I think they do this on purpose knowing it breaks in a lot and doesn't reach its true feel until more like 180 days. I noticed other competitors offer 180 days or even 365 days. Of course they would not let me exchange it for something firmer when I called 147 days into using it. For a mattress that costs what they are charging, put your money somewhere else. I really regret trusting this company. Maybe it would have turned out differently if I had been able to get the firmer version, but they wouldn't budge so ask yourself which company stands behind their product more when making a mattress decision - Helix certainly does not, AVOID.

I’m a 36m 5’10” 250lb stomach sleeper. My wife is a 34f 5’0” 130lb side sleeper.
For the past 7 years we were sleeping on an original Casper mattress which served us well until it suddenly seemed to give out and we began waking up in pain. Rotating it didn’t help. We began by replacing it with a Casper Select mattress from Costco. We found it comfortable however I began waking up nightly in back pain on it and suspected it wasn’t giving me the support I needed.
I did a bunch of research into what mattresses provide the best back pain relief and based on that we next tried a Saatva Classic. It seemed too firm and the coil on coil structure led to a huge amount of motion transfer. My wife said she hated it as a side sleeper and outright refused to even sleep on it even for one night. Back to the drawing board. Saatvas return process was good and we promptly got a refund.
Doing some more research, Wired magazine and Forbes were really praising the Helix Midnight Luxe. It seemed like it was ideal for side sleepers which gave me confidence my wife would like it. I was concerned on whether I would get enough spinal alignment as a heavy stomach sleeper. Some reviews indicated a lot of off gassing with strong smells that could last two weeks.
We pulled the trigger and ordered on Labor Day weekend. We purchased the ergo align layer and glaciotex gel cooling layer as extras. The total bill for a king after taxes was $2731. Helix shipped the mattress the next day. FedEx royally sucked with numerous false and/or no status updates and eventually dumped it in a mangled box in the middle of our driveway two weeks later. We used a dolly to get it up a few front steps which was a good idea given that this sucker was heavy!
The mattress feels medium firm, erring on the more firm side of things. The top layer seems soft and when laying on it there is only a small (about 2”) of sinkage. It feels like you’re more-so laying on top of the mattress with a small amount of cradling. What I like is the amount of support you get. The foam layers near the top and springs underneath provide instant support and pressure relief at all points on my body. I woke up without any back pain which is a big deal. Even as a stomach sleeper im sensing my spine might not be fully aligned (slightly sagging) but it’s not too bad and I’ve been happy. As a side sleeper my wife indicated she is comfortable.
In terms of off gassing there really hasn’t been much. The first night when moving around on it I got one or two whiffs but that’s been it.
In terms of cooling I was disappointed that the mattress doesn’t feel cool to the touch like some other mattresses do with cooling gel layers. That’s what I thought we were paying for with the Glaciotex add on. When laying under a duvet, our body temps feel like they’re regulated well and we haven’t been over heating. It has better heat dissipation than other mattresses we’ve been on. With that said we’ve never felt the mattress ever offer any kind of “cooling” sensation. If I had to do it all over again, I would not purchase the glaciotex add on. I suspect you’d get the bulk of the performance with the default tencel pillow top.
Motion transfer has been good. There’s a little bit of it, considering that there is 8” of springs underneath the foam, however I feel like I can move around and adjust my positions and get in and out of bed without disturbing my wife.
An additional gripe I have is that the top layer has this quilted diamond pattern that intentionally create these hills and valleys. We don’t love that feature where our ideal mattress would have a flat memory foam top with slightly more sinkage, a little more softness or memory foam feeling, and is cool to the touch.
All in all, we’re fairly happy with it. It’s offering good support and we’re getting good sleep on it. The mattress is pricey and we wish it could have checked all of our boxes but our gripes are more wants than needs.
The “free” pillows that were sent with the mattress are junk. We haven’t tried the “free” mattress protector or microfiber sheet set yet.
We haven’t had to test Helix’s customer support yet. I put this review on their website and it appears to have been removed by Helix, so I’m posting on Reddit instead.
My husband and I are looking into a new mattress and he likes the Helix. Is it a quality mattress? Does it last? Our current mattress was purchased 4 years ago through Marriott (I think the brand is Jamison) and it is totally sagging junk. I want a quality mattress that will last at least 10 years. Thanks!
I am looking for a good new mattress that is Medium firmness twin for a side sleeper. Should I get one with helix or just get something at living spaces.
(sorry forgot to mention that I can’t stand the feel of coils and often shift in my sleep. Is there a way to filter those in the helix website?)
I don't see a lot of personal reviews of the Helix outside of the main mattress review websites. I'm likely returning my week-old Saatva luxury firm classic because of all the pain and likely too firm see my post here.
I'm now looking seriously at the Helix Midnight or Dusk for a hybrid mattress but still not sure what I should get. For context I am 165 lbs and a back sleeper (sometimes side). The quiz gave me a dusk but I am not sure of the foam differences.
Would appreciate any experiences you may have!
I’ve been trying to find a new mattress and while Googling, the Helix mattress gets recommended. I’m familiar of the brand due to YouTubers sponsored by them. I’m weary trusting brands YouTubers promote. I’m hoping if there are any users with an honest opinion on Helix mattresses. It’s so hard nowadays with sponsored content to find honest reviews. Much appreciated!
I did a lot of research on this sub before deciding to go with the Helix. I'm a chaotic sleeper, so I needed something to accommodate that, and it seemed like the best option. They were also having a sale. I don't know if they always do, but it seemed like a decent deal. I'd seen a lot of reviews from people here talking about their bad experiences, but I wanted to give an updated review and share my current experience, as it's quite different from what I've seen.
I ordered on 9/14 (Saturday), and it was shipped on 9/16 (Monday). They mention having a 3 to 7-day processing time, so I was surprised it was so quick. It ships from Arizona and they use FedEx. I'm on the East Coast, so it had quite a way to go, but the delivery estimate was for 9/20. (FedEx ended up delaying it, so it was delivered a day later.)
I ordered a full because the queen mattress I previously had took up too much space in my bedroom. It weighed almost 100 pounds, which is a bit heavy for a mattress that size. Unboxing was pretty easy. It expanded quickly, but not so fast that it was difficult to get out of the plastic. The pillows included puffed up right after I took them out of the package. They're pretty flat and soft, so don't expect too much from them if they come with your purchase, but they seem like they'd work well for stomach sleepers.
What I was most impressed with was the lack of smell. I'd seen a lot of people complain that the smell was overpowering and lingered for days, if not weeks. I'm really sensitive to smells, and even right after unboxing, it was very faint. It's aired out for a couple of hours, and I only notice it if I actually press my face into the mattress. I was worried it might stink up my bedroom and that I wouldn't be able to sleep on it for a few days based on what I'd read here, but I should have no problem sleeping on it tonight.
I laid on it for a few minutes right after it came out of the box just to test it out and compare it to my previous mattress (which was an expensive Tempurpedic that was a few years old). It felt much more supportive. I'm relatively petite (5'4", 110 lbs), and I felt like my back and hips were properly supported, unlike my old mattress, which would leave my back sore if I slept for around 8 hours.
It's still just day one, and the mattress has only been out of the box for two or three hours, but I plan to regularly update this post because my experience is very different from some of the older ones here. I'd like to share my current (and positive so far) experience.
Day 3: The mattress is firmer than I would like but still a major improvement over my old mattress. I contacted Helix’s customer support to get a little more information on the breaking in process and how long that would take and if there was anything I could do to make it easier on me. They offered to send me a complimentary plush memory foam topper to help soften it up while it breaks in. They also offer a firmer option if your mattress is too soft, apparently. I have fibromyalgia so a new mattress has been a little rough on me but I’ll update once the topper gets here and I have some time to try it out.
Day 30: The mattress has gotten softer over the last month but it’s not quite soft enough for me. With the plush topper and a 2” memory foam topper I still have pressure points. I do think it has a lot to do with me only being 112lbs. It might work better for someone heavier but it didn’t have enough give for me. I contacted their customer service and they offered an exchange for the Sunset Luxe which is a softer model. They said it would still have the same hundred night sleep trial that I’m already in which really doesn’t seem like much of a problem since I’m switching it out after the 30 day break in period. Will update again with how that process goes.
Day 40: Reached out to them to process the exhange. The process was super simple. They're shipping out the Sunset Luxe for me and sending a local company to come get rid of the other mattress. Didn't have to pay anything extra and it was a super simple process. Overall I like the mattress but it's still just a little too firm for me because I don't weigh that much.
Day 75: The exchange process was super smooth. They arranged for a local organization to come pick up the Midnight Luxe. The Sunset is exactly what I was looking for and it’s getting even more comfortable as I break it in. I haven’t had the usual back pain I wake up with. No soreness from sleeping like a rotisserie chicken. I’m really happy with this mattress now and feel like it was totally worth the money.
To sum everything up, I’ve had a great overall experience with Helix. Customer service was impressive and really did help me out a lot, the new mattress I swapped out for is perfect. I’m incredibly happy with the purchase I made. Also, the Midnight Luxe is firmer that they make it out to be (Gosh, I wonder what the ‘firm’ option is like if that was a medium), so if you like a more medium firmness I’d suggest the Sunset Luxe instead.
Just curious about what some "mattress pros" think about Helix.
I’ve been recommending this mattress for quite a while now, ever since I got it, and I get way too many DMs from random users asking me all kinds of questions about this mattress. So, I’ve been meaning to write this up for a while and figured it was finally time to share my experience with the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress after sleeping on it for over a year.
(I asked the moderator for permission, and I’m not using any technical terms in this review—I’ll just describe everything the way it feels and how I’d explain it to my best friend.)
Rule #2Quick backstory
For reference, I'm around 180 lbs and primarily a back sleeper who tosses and turns a bit, occasionally ending up on my side. Sometimes I'll end up in what I call the "car crash" position on my stomach, but that's basically just another form of side sleeping. My wife is around 120 lbs and a STRICT side sleeper who could sleep through the apocalypse.
That said, we moved from a queen Beautyrest Black Plush Pillow Top (bought in 2018 after trying it at the St. Regis Hotel) to the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress with the GlacioTex Cooling Cover option.
(Also, yes, I'll definitely write up a review on that Beautyrest Black too since it was honestly the most comfortable mattress I'd ever slept on until now—so, my expectations were SKY HIGH.)
Shipping and delivery
I live in Puerto Rico and had to ship this bad boy from the mainland. It cost a few hundred extra but STILL was cheaper than if I'd shipped it to Canada for some reason. All I know is that my mattress arrived in about a week and a half, and it was delivered right to our doorstep.
It wasn’t FedEx who delivered it—it was a third-party Puerto Rican delivery service that forwarded it to us, and I had to sign on a tablet.
This thing is HEAVY AF. We live in a townhouse with three floors with no elevator and guess where the master bedroom is? Well, my tiny wife and I basically had to roll it up the stairs like that robot from Interstellar (TARS? CASE? can't remember which one).
The box was pristine until our little stairway adventure destroyed it. But, we got the mattress upstairs in one piece.
Unboxing and setup
We unboxed our new Helix Midnight Luxe (hybrid mattress) and put it on our new Japanese joinery wooden slatted king bed frame (slats spaced less than 3" apart as recommended). Then we just let it expand for like a week since we were still moving in.
(TBH, we can even fit an Alaskan king in this new bedroom, it's huge!)
Off-gassing wasn't an issue at all—there was a very subtle initial scent but we had a HEPA purifier and AC running 24/7 and by the time we actually slept on it, it smelled like nothing.
Rule #2 – Mattress without protector or encasement.Initial impressions
When I first jumped on the mattress, (I actually stepped on it instead of sitting or lying down), I was genuinely surprised by how it felt. Remember, I came from a luxury hotel mattress and my standards were through the roof—but this thing was surprisingly plush yet supportive. Then, when I sat and lay down on it, it didn’t feel quite as plush as it did when I stepped on it. So, the more weight you put on a specific point, the plusher it feels, so keep that in mind if you’re on the heavier side.
Honestly, the Helix Midnight Luxe is a beautiful mattress. It's well-constructed, tall (about 14"), luxurious color palette, and it LOOKS expensive. The handles on the sides are a nice touch too.
I kept walking all over it to break it in (weird habit, I know) and noticed a significant difference in resistance across different zones. The Helix Midnight Luxe has a zoned support system that's SUPER noticeable when walking—much softer in the shoulder and leg areas, but significantly firmer in the center third where your lumbar area rests.
Interestingly, when you're actually lying down, not sitting though, this zoning feels more subtle but it definitely works and does it job well.
Cooling technology
The GlacioTex Cooling Cover is AMAZING. But, I’m not that glad we went with it.
This Helix Luxe mattress, at least with the GlacioTex Cooling Cover, feels incredibly soft and cool to the touch. Any Luxe model with this cover will feel almost like you're lying on an ice block. I was honestly surprised by how cool it felt at first. HOWEVER, it's worth noting that the cooling effect doesn't last forever (physics, duh), but if you get up and lie back down, it sort of "reactivates".
I was wearing a t-shirt and jeans that day, and the cooling effect could be felt through both fabrics. The breathability is pretty cool too—you can literally feel air whooshing out all four sides when you compress it.
We use the matching Helix GlacioTex Cooling Waterproof Protector and Mattress Encasement.
Once you put the protector and encasement on the mattress, you can barely feel the cooling effect anymore. NOTHING. So, if you’re not going to sleep on the naked mattress, don’t count on the cooling cover to cool you down—it won’t.
We also use a set of L.L. Bean percale cotton sheets, and a light duvet. Living in Puerto Rico where it's hot AF, we keep our bedroom between 66-68°F year-round to control humidity and protect furniture (I'm literally allergic to mold and dust mites). Even with all that, and 4+ layers on top of the mattress we've NEVER had issues with sweating or overheating. It's always fresh and cool.
Break-in period
I got to be honest, the first night wasn't amazing. Coming from a plush pillowtop, this felt a bit firm and even gave me slight back pain. The first few days, it felt like a true medium-firm mattress.
I mean, when you step on it, the Midnight Luxe mattress feels softer because, like I mentioned earlier, you're concentrating weight in one spot, but when your body weight is distributed across the surface for 8 hours, it doesn't feel as soft. So, heavier people than me might find this mattress softer than I did initially.
I'd describe it as "sleeping ON the mattress rather than IN it" but with just the right amount of sink for comfort.
After about 1-2 weeks, the old Helix Midnight Luxe reviews I'd read started making sense—the mattress broke in and my body adapted. Now, more than a year later, it feels like a true medium mattress with the right balance of comfort and support.
Rule #2 – Mattress without protector, but with encasement.Support and alignment
The support layer has been consistently excellent from day one. I don't experience any back pain because I stay properly aligned all night.
The zoned support system in the Helix Midnight mattress lineup is legit—it provides that extra lumbar support while giving nice cushioning in the shoulder area to prevent joint discomfort.
Motion isolation and edge Support
The motion isolation on this particular model, from my perspective, is AVERAGE. I get up to pee sometimes or wake up early, and my wife has never noticed me leaving the bed. I try to be ninja-quiet anyway, but she says she feels absolutely nothing when I move. BUT, I genuinely feel the bed moves a lot when I move. I don’t know if it’s the bed frame or the mattress, but I’m torn between what my wife says and what I feel.
The edge support is AMAZING. I can roll right to the edge without feeling like I'm about to fall off and perform other activities I will talk about in the next section probably.
I don't often sit on the edge (we have a bench in our closet for putting on shoes), but when I do, it's super sturdy. This mattress definitely outperforms our old mattress in the edge support department.
Sex factor (yeah, I'm going there)
My wife and I have an active sex life, and this Helix Midnight Luxe mattress review wouldn't be complete without mentioning this aspect. The responsiveness and bounce are amazing even on our slatted base.
We've never had problems switching positions or sinking too much during intimate moments. AT ALL.
We've "tested" the entire surface (FOR SCIENCE!), especially the corners and edges, and the support is consistent throughout. Unlike our previous pillow-top mattress which could get complicated, this mattress gets a 10 for sexy time activities.
Rule #2 – Mattress with protector and encasementMy wife's experience (120 lb side sleeper)
I convinced my wife to contribute her thoughts to this review.
Here's her take:
“For a lightweight side sleeper, it feels less plush than my previous mattress but more supportive overall.
During the break-in period, I sometimes woke up with neck and hip pain, but I wasn't sure if it was from moving houses or the new mattress. After about two weeks, the pain went away and the mattress became much more comfortable.
I'm not a hot sleeper and the cooling cover doesn't make much difference since I'm always cold, lol. This mattress really supports my body: it's firmer for sure than my old one but still feels soft and plush. I don't sink into it, yet it contours nicely to my body.”
So, even as a strict side sleeper who's A LOT lighter than me, she's finding the mattress to be accurate regarding the promised balance of comfort and support.
Just goes to show that the Helix Midnight Luxe genuinely works for different body types and sleep positions.
Long-term durability
After over a year of daily use, there's virtually no permanent indentation or sagging.
The Helix mattress price is justified by how well it's holding up. I rotate it 180° every 3-4 months just to be safe, but honestly, it looks and feels almost identical to when we first got it. The stitching is still perfect, no loose threads or issues with the cover.
Who should buy this mattress?
Based on my experience, the Helix Midnight Luxe could be good for:
Side and back sleepers around my weight (180lbs) or lighter
Side sleepers like my wife (120lbs)
Couples with SLIGHTLY different sleep preferences
Hot sleepers (with the cooling cover upgrade?... I'm not so sure)
People who want a true medium feel with zoned support
If you're significantly heavier or prefer a truly plush/firm feel, you might want to check out other options in the Helix Sleep mattress lineup.
Rule #2 – Mattress label.The not-so-great stuff
To keep it 100% real, there are a few minor issues with the mattress that other Reddit reviews don't always mention:
The price is definitely on the higher end, especially with the cooling cover upgrade. When I checked Helix mattress complaints before buying, price was one of the main issues.
It's HEAVY AF. Seriously, rotating this king-size beast requires two people and some strategic planning. Trust me, this matters weighs more than you think.
The initial break-in period might be uncomfortable if you're coming from a softer mattress.
Helix customer service took about 2 days to respond to a question I had, which isn't terrible but not amazing either.
My final thoughts on the Helix Midnight Luxe
I was a bit nervous, especially after reading so many mixed Helix Midnight Reddit threads (especially now that the mattress space within Reddit is such a shit show). But, after sleeping on it for over a year, IMO, the Helix Midnight Luxe, is absolutely worth it.
Coming from the Beautyrest Black (which I loved), I wasn't sure anything would compare, but the Helix Midnight Luxe has honestly been pretty good for our needs.
The cooling properties alone aren't worth the upgrade for anyone that uses mattress protectors or encasements. But, the combination of zoned support and just the right amount of plushness makes it one of the best mattresses I've slept on in my entire life.
I'd give this mattress, (while also taking into consideration other Helix Midnight Luxe mattress reviews) a good 8.5/10 overall. The only points deducted is for the initial break-in period discomfort and the cooling cover disappointment (even though it doesn't bother me at all.)
I hope this helps and answers most of the questions I get in my DMs. This is exactly how I feel about the mattress. If you’re on the fence and your sleeper profile somewhat matches mine, this mattress is a pretty good alternative to consider.
Hi all!
After a ton of research, my Wife and I got the Helix midnight luxe. Weve slept on it since the 12th. It's been ok so far. Nothing crazy.
About us; I am about 225, 6 ft and wife is about 170. Both of us are mostly side sleepers.
Pros: coming from a 9 year old mattress, my circulation has gotten better when laying down. I would expect this with a cheaper mattress as well though (we had a cheap warehouse discount mattress we paid $600 previously. It held up well up until recently). Nothing bad to report comfort wise. I'm not "OMG this mattress is sooo comfortable" either though.
Cons: Price: I think the mattress industry spends most of their money on marketing over quality. The price of this mattress is pretty high for what it is IMHO. Time it took to get the mattress: 3 weeks. Make sure you're able to wait a bit. It can take up to a month. "Gassing": this is the worst part. I let the mattress air for about 24 hours before use. It stunk pretty bad for five days or so. I've had to wash the sheets every couple of days. Still getting a whiff when moving on the mattress from time to time. If I did it over again I'd wait a few more days. I'd hate to buy one of these in the winter. We had the window open the first two days with a window fan going and the sheets off during the day.
I'm not a mattress expert, but with all the research I've done, I'm not convinced that you need to spend $2k on a mattress unless you have health issues that warrant it. If you're like us, and don't have a lot of expendable income, I'd recommend considering some of the cheaper options.
Time will tell though!! I'm definitely not blown away. I'm not upset either. Just sort of meh.
Hope this helps someone out there!
I am looking for a new mattress. I currently have a no-spring Serta ‘Serene Peace’ mattress which I think is latex from a Vera Wang collection in 2008.
I’m kind of a big guy and my hips are pushing through the mattress to the base layer which is firm so I wake up stiff with pain almost every morning. I move around a lot at night (maybe because of the mattress?) so I’m in all sleep positions.
I tried mattress topper, but that made things worse as the 3 inch foam one just gave me lower back pain.
Right now I can only fit a Queen but would eventually like a King. I also am working to get my weight down but have kinda accepted the fact I’ll likely destroy anything I buy pretty quickly so I’d like to not spend a ton until I can get that king.
Someone I know got a Serta Perfect Sleeper Charlotte from Mattress Firm so I tried that for a night and I could hear the springs moving when I rolled and I woke up in tremendous pain.
I then went to some stores and tried a few mattresses. My absolute favorite was the Beautyrest KX Plush. I accidentally kicked the remote and it raised the head, feet and started vibrating. I legit thought I was going to space. Laying on it in the store, I was blown away at how amazing it felt, really, truly. Until yesterday I thought the adjustable bases were just dumb, but now I really wish I could get that setup. I was laying on $6,000 but I felt like a million bucks.
I also laid on the Tempur Luxe Breeze. I really liked the cooling feeling and had zero pressure anywhere. But I get stuck in place and could hardly turn over.
Then I tried the Purple Hybrid Premier 4 and liked that quite a bit, probably my second favorite but didn’t try it super long, then tried the original Purple and sank right through to the base layers.
I also tried the Casper Nova & Wave Hybrids with and without the cooling layer but liked the Nova best because it was softest.
During looking at all these beds I was pointed towards a $1300 “Thomas Cole Borealis Hybrid”. I actually liked it quite a bit and kept coming back to it over and over. The only ones I liked better was the Purple 4 & Beautyrest KX.
I then found out they had this same Borealis Hybrid on clearance as a ‘comfort return’ for $547 an hour away and I planned to go get it the next day. For the price it seemed like a no brainer.
The next day I decided to go back to my local store and try it again. I still really liked it a lot but something tells me it might be too soft and will give me problems because I’ve read a lot about not getting too soft, especially if your heavy. So I decided to pass on that.
Then today I found a Helix Plus with GlacioTex cover for $550, I’m going to try it out tomorrow but I’m thinking this might be a better choice.
Going from a springless mattress for 14 years to a hybrid, will some back pain be normal as I adjust? (If we need to adjust anyway, does it even matter what we get?)
Should I get the Helix Plus? I feel like a dedicated plus size mattress at this price seems like an obvious move. I just want to wake up without pain. I notice I move around a lot because of pain/pressure spots during the night.
Suggestions? Thanks!!
Got the Helix Luxe mattress after seeing a lot of good reviews. We had originally got the Twilight, but after about a week or so decided it was still not firm enough so we swapped out for the Dawn model 9Both with the Ergo Align layer added) and so pretty much no change.
I've got 3 main gripes with this mattress:
As a stomach sleeper, my hips sink in below my shoulders, hyper extending my back. For the firmest mattress a company offers, that just shouldn't happen .
Edge collapse - It's terrible. This isint even the base model and I'm practically sitting on my frame if I am to side at the edge of the bed. It happens inward as well - If either of us are sitting up and have a more condensed center of mass, we sink in WAY too far for a firm mattress.
Next, and even worse, it's been almost 3 months or so and there is a visible indent forming where I sleep AND where my wife sleeps.
Now, I'm not a huge guy, but I'm a bit bulkier (~200 lbs at 6ft), and granted my wife is about 9 months pregnant. But, for a mattress to take a depression so quickly has me very skeptical about the type of quality we're dealing with. It'd be one thing if we changed models and it was all good... but both models have bore the same result.
If you like a squishy mattress, I guess it's good - but if you're looking for anything with structure or rigidity I would steer clear of this one unless it's about %75 off.
After what seems like years of grueling mattress research/shopping, I feel like I have finally zeroed in on a prospect. Does anyone here have a Helix matress, bonus points for the midnight elite? Helix gets a lot of traction but not a lot of personal experience reviews. I have read there may be quality issues, so I would like to hear from actual users. TIA!!
Just putting this here for anyone who wants it in the future. I recently moved across the country with no furniture for a new job. After doing plenty of research (on this sub and other places on the internet), I ended up buying a Quren size Helix Midnight from the "core collection" because I don't have "Luxe" money, and my back is starting to get tight from the air mattress I've been sleeping on (really good imo as far as air mattress go).
I chose it based on my size/shape (5' 10", 185-190 lb, athletic build), and sleeping position (I usually fall asleep on my side, and wake up in almost any position. This will be the first non-innerspring mattress that I've owned, but I've slept on hybrids before and slept well. In the past I've usually gone for firmer mattresses, but I figured that now would be the time to make the adjustment for the sake of my spine.
I mostly picked Helix because of the variety of firmness levels, and I can do an exchange if needed. Also, I like that they'll send a free mattress pad if the bed is almost right but not quite - I'll probably take advantage of this no matter how much I love the bed. I'm assuming the bed will arrive within 10-14 days. I'll also probably be getting a Zinus bedframe from Amazon and, sheets that are TBD.
Moving into a new place soon, got a bigger bed frame, therefore needed a new mattress. Upon trying various different mattresses we landed on the helix midnight luxe.
What are people’s thoughts on this mattress and brand?
I got a queen size, normally retails for 2300. Upon back and forth with the salesman at our local mattress store. We got down to $1400 out the door. Taxes and fees included. I feel like we got a good deal on it but trying to see what the general consensus is on this brand and mattress.
Starting this out with saying I spent MONTHS of researching & reading different reviews as well as testing locally. I even asked multiple AIs the best beds based on all of my preferences - which I’ll list at the bottom.
That being said, I landed on the helix midnight luxe & pulled the trigger on Presidents’ Day weekend for a “discount”. Tonight is about to be night 1 so I’ll try to remember to update tomorrow & every few nights in case it helps someone. I have ADHD though so… no true promises.
Ordering experience after decision was made was easy. I set up affirm payments so it would be easier to get money back if I hate it & not spend all of the nearly $2k at once. I ordered a queen btw.
The “deal” included sheets, pillows & mattress protector. The sheets & mattress protector came 2 days later. The bed & pillow came 8 days after ordering. The actual delivery was expected this Thursday so 2 days early is great.
My old mattress was 12 years old. So I’m hopeful I’ll like it better regardless.
Initial thoughts: it actually feels softer than I expected which worries me. Kinda like I’m sinking or it’s molding to me ever so slightly. I bought this one since it’s a hybrid & I don’t love straight memory foam. I’ve thrown my back out a few times in the last 3 years, so support is super important. Plus trying to get roll out of a bed when you’re slightly sunken down in the middle is awful. We’ll see how it goes, but I may switch to the twilight & try a more firm bed if I can’t get used to this feeling.
I haven’t noticed any smells/off gassing, but the weather has been beautiful today. Windows & fans have been open all day.
Preferences: 5’3” female - currently 155lbs Side sleeper / toss & turn a lot Thrown back out multiple times so medium to firm bed was important I sleep with a 40lb dog & 9lb cat my boyfriend stays the night frequently; he’s 5’7 & about 160lbs & also a side sleeper. I have had other chronic health issues so good sleep is my top priority for my health. So I was willing to spend more for a good mattress especially since my last one purchased was 12 years ago.
That’s it for now, wish me luck! Or sweet dreams! 😅✨
EDIT #1: NIGHT ONE IS DONE! ___________
First night wasn’t too bad. No off gassing smell or any smell after turning fan off & closing windows in the evening. Definitely woke up a bit less stiff, but nothing drastic. I did still toss & turn throughout the night. Haven’t slept great this week though, so that could be more me than the mattress.
I was fairly warm at bedtime & woke up kinda cold which I don’t have too often. Outside temps weren’t particularly cold either. My old mattress was just springs & slight pillow top. So maybe the build doesn’t hold as much heat? I didn’t buy the glaciotex topper.
One positive thing I did notice - or not notice - I didn’t feel when my dog or cat jumped on & off the bed. Usually i feel them hop up in the morning especially. I also don’t recall hearing any extra noises when I flipped from side to side. So that’s promising. Boyfriend is traveling currently, so I’ll be curious to see if either of us notice the other moving.
EDIT #2: 3 Weeks In
Honestly, getting used to it & find it fairly comfortable. Not magic or fixing my back issues, but it isn’t hurting anything more. And my back issues are getting better thanks to other methods (PT, chiro, etc). I can also sit up in bed reading before sleep more comfortably than my last mattress.
Boyfriend has stayed over & really likes it. We don’t feel each other moving around as much.
The only real con is it holds heat which my room is already warmer than the rest of the house. So I’ve been a tad sweatier… I will likely invest in a cooling pad on Amazon to solve for that though.
Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with the purchase for now. ☺️
Edit #3: 47 days left in trial window
So after throwing my back out for the 5th time in 3 years… I’ve been thinking about getting the firmest option instead (Twilight luxe). The midnight is seemingly firm enough, but my constant back issues probably need more. I reached out to Helix to learn about exchanging products.
One thing they do before an entire new mattress is offer complimentary mattress toppers. They’re sending me a firm support topper and I’m hopeful that teeny bit extra support is what I need. Otherwise I’ll swap to the twilight.
The mattress is still fine otherwise, but just making sure I get the best support for my personal needs. It still does hold heat & as someone who’s been waking up with some weird night sweat stuff this week, I don’t love that still. So that would be my one warning: if you sleep warm, you may want to consider getting the cooling top with this.
Hello. I wanted to write my review and experience with the Helix Midnight mattress, to somewhat help anyone who is, like me, looking for the "ideal" mattress.
Mattresses reviews and advertisements are pretty messy and misleading. You can find two peoples with similar body weight, height, and even sleeping preferences, and they can love and hate the same mattress, respectively.
That's what happened to me, but I decided to take my chances with the Helix Midnight, since their customer service was apparently outstanding, at least regarding mattress refunds.
I'm 6'0'', 150lbs. I'm a side sleeper, although I sleep on my back maybe 30% of the time. I took their online quiz, and they suggested the Helix Midnight, although the Helix Midnight Luxe was probably a better fit(but beyond my budget). The mattress arrived in a box within 5 business days. I unboxed it, and let it expand for 1-2 days. There was no off-gassing, and the mattress felt pretty comfortable.
My first week using it felt awesome. I woke up every day feeling no pain whatsoever. It offered the right amount of support for both back and side sleeping, without being too soft or firm. However, this changed after my first month with it. I started noticing that I sank way too much if I slept on my back, and began experiencing back pain consistently every morning. The memory foam layer in the half that I used for 3-4 weeks felt just way softer than the other half that I barely used at all. So I started sleeping on the other half instead, knowing this wasn't a long term solution. Sometimes I traveled during the weekend, and when I returned to the Helix after 2-3 days without using it, it felt a tad firmer, and the sleep quality improved, but only for that first night.
After almost 70 nights of my 100 nights sleep trial, I decided to return it. Wrote an email to customer service, and they replied in just a couple of hours, offering a free mattress topper that accomodated my sleep preference. I refused it, since honestly, a $1000 mattress should NOT sag after just 1 month of use, and going through the whole mattress topper shenanigans would only make me lose my time, and my remaining nights of sleep trial. They understood, and put me in contact with a local charity company, that would pick it up in 7-14 days. Then Helix would issue a full refund as soon as they received the pickup receipt. This process was pretty smooth, a guy from the company contacted me in less than a week, picked it up, and gave me the receipt. The next morning Helix received the receipt and issued a full refund.
Now, before they picked up my Helix mattress, I went down the rabbit hole of mattress hunting, once again. Spent hours surfing reddit reviews and decided, after maybe 10+ hours of web searching that spanned over 4 days, to go with the Dreamcloud Hybrid. It was even cheaper than the Helix. Now I've had it for about 3 weeks, and so far, so good. It took me maybe 3-4 days to get used to it, and it is a bit firmer than the Helix, so it supports me way better, at the cost of not being that comfy the second you jump on it. I'll try to update my experience with Dreamcloud after a couple of months.
Hope this helps some foes out there, going through the same hellish experience that is finding a decent mattress. Honestly, it shouldn't be this hard.
