Most likely a scam. All you had to do was Google the phrase "This way, I shall be assured of the serious intentions" and you'll find the FAQ on eBay . Who writes like that anyway? The other tip-off is the references to "Chair Ottoman" without punctuation. Nobody I know would describe the Eames in that way. I have been wanting an Eames chair replica for a while (6 years or so) and, like I said in the original post, have actively been researching the past 3-6 months and shopping the past 3 weeks. I found that most cheaply made versions are from China (I found plenty on Amazon, eBay, and other websites), but the quality control was rock-bottom minimal or non-existent; people are always looking for a cheap profit and the Eames chair carries a strong name recognition in the furniture world. I looked on several other websites which may have had a few comparable, quality replicas, but without being able to view it myself I was still wary. I whittled it down to Cantoni, Manhatten Home Designs, and Urban Furnishings. All were roughly in the same price range as the other, but I found some differences which tipped the scale in favor of Cantoni. The first was geographical proximity; We have a Cantoni store very close to my office (Dallas TX), so I wouldn't have to pay shipping (I picked it up myself). The second was monetary accommodation: Cantoni was able to work with me to get the price I was looking for (buying in person gives you the option to compromise a little where online does not). Lastly is similar to the first in that I could actually give it a test run (and get approval from the wife because she has to like the look and feel or it's a no-go). I have to say, the quality was astonishing. I think I was able to get a little extra taken off the sticker partly due to the sale they had going (200 off as a standard, plus an additional 28% off the reduced price for MLK weekend), but also due to purchasing the floor model. However, I doubt it was hardly touched as it was near the back amongst desks and office chairs. It was in impeccable shape, and a quick cleaning at home restored any dust or smudges it may have had. I have had the pleasure to see an authentic Eames chair in person, and I must say that Cantoni's version is meticulously constructed. This quality may even be better than the original Eames chair and if I had to choose from a side-by-side with an original, I don't think I would be able to tell a difference (or I would pick the Cantoni version). The cushions are zippered in (like the original) so you can change those if you so choose. The armrests are reinforced with steel bent plates providing excellent support other replicas don't seem to show. The layered wood is thick, sturdy, and (minus a nearly imperceptible scratch on the underside of the ottoman probably from handling) is practically flawless. The metal footing on both the ottoman and the chair itself is heavy duty and puts some solid weight on the chair, as do the brackets on the back of the chair (once again, probably aluminum on other brands which reduce cost). Swivel is clean and smooth as butter. Angle is true to the original and incredibly comfortable (as it takes the weight off of your back). Be warned; this chair does sit very low to the ground - almost exactly 15" off the ground - so I may have to build a walnut platform for it in my old age, but being younger now, it isn't a big deal. Cushioning is a little firmer than the original - though still very comfortable - however, the associate who helped me confirmed hers she purchased two years ago has softened up over time. I believe this will happen to mine as well. Lastly, the leather seems to be of very high quality and puckers/wrinkles/folds beautifully at the buttons, leading me to believe they used pliable, softer, higher quality leather than nearly all other replica brands I have come across (especially the cheaper versions which look very flat and very uninteresting and uncomfortable to "sink" into). TL:DR I am overwhelmingly pleased with this replica version of the Eames chair by Cantoni for both the staff at Cantoni for helping me out greatly and the outstanding quality of the product I look forward to enjoying for decades to come. I would recommend to anyone who wants the Eames chair in their home but cannot justify shelling out $5,000+, as you can get one which is identical (or better) for under a third of the price. I'll try to answer questions anyone may have concerning this version, but in my opinion, this chair is up to the same standard, if not better, than a licensed Eames chair.
