I’m on a tight budget, so I want to be sure before spending a significant amount on a DAP. I’d like to know if they’re worth the price and if there are plenty of customization options. I love being able to personalize my devices to match my style—it’s really important to me.

I've owned the HiBy R4 for a few months now and I love it. It's my first DAP and over time it's become that I listen to 90% of my music only through the R4. Yes, sometimes there are some software bugs (e.g. a freeze for a minute - once a month), yes - the device is quite thick and you need rather bigger pockets to comfortably carry it with you. But these are really unimportant details. What I like most about it (apart from the obvious things like the 4.4mm port, physical buttons, or design) is how many possibilities there are to manipulate the sound. We have the classic PEQ, plugins (I love the convolution plugin!), or the really clearly described and easy to use MSEB. I know that sometimes people write that they have quite significant problems with overheating, weak battery, or more serious software bugs - these problems (touch wood!) do not concern me. Maybe because my R4 seems to be some revision version, because the screen resolution is higher 750 x 1334 like in the EVA version, not 720×1280 as the specification of the normal R4 version states. As for the battery - I charge it usually once every two days, or less often - because sometimes I connect the R4 to a stationary computer using it as a desktop amplifier. As for the usage itself - this is an Android device - you have the option to install any launcher and configure it however you want. My favorite is the Square Home launcher, thanks to which I can get the look of the unforgettable Windows Phone :)
