It may not have an open Android operating system, meaning you are limited to the available music players and streaming services. However, the fully featured Hiby OS with an all-new UI works together with the X1600E processor so well that the boot-up times are only 5 seconds, which is a fast boot-up time.

May 28, 2025 - IMO, the R3-II screen looked better, and I even prefer the blueish cue of the R1. The R3pro-Saber screen was much better than these 3... The menus and options are almost identical to the R3-II, but with a R1-style theme.

March 1, 2024 - Since the introduction of the first-generation HiBy R3, it has seen several upgrades, including the R3 Pro in 2019 and the recent Sabre model at the end of last year. Now, HiBy has unveiled a true 2nd generation version called the R3 II, which builds upon the clean design of its predecessors while introducing exciting new features, offering 16x unfold for MQA, a physical volume knob, as well as extended playback time of up to 15 hours.

Fortunately, their use-cases seem unusual for most of us. SOUND IMPROVED Compared to the R3 PRO, the sound is distinctly better - and I thought the PRO sounded just fine for the size and cost of that player.

HiBy seems to have found a new “house sound” with the R3 Pro II and their latest R6: warm, smooth, and mid-forward. Vocals are the star here, they sit forward, textured, and engaging.
