Title. I am trying to decide if it's worth the $100 upgrade to the Evangelion edition of the R4 and the "improvements" it claims to offer in sound quality, or if that money would be better spent towards better IEMs.

Hi All, I have some Amazon GCs from my birthday and was thinking of picking up an R4. The Evangelion is not available on Amazon and I was wondering if there is an audible difference between the two units? I’ve read the specs and they are similar other than RAM and some extra on board memory. Is it worth holding out for the Evangelion or just go for it and get the “base” model?

I'm very impressed with the build quality and sound of the Hiby R4 Evangelion. I typically go for Cirrus Logic DAC chipsets but I was let down with the Ibasso DX180 after receiving 2 defects back to back. As for the E Audio Evangelion IEMs, I could never find a decent review of these anywhere online so I just had to take a gamble and I'm glad I did. The bass is phenomenal and it doesn't muddy the clarity at all so the detail is very nice. I would compare the sound to Aful performer 5. The cable itself feels very high end and worth the price alone. The only CON I have is the shell feel and quality. The outer portion with the Evangelion design is very nice and painted metal but the inner portion reminds me of the shell encasing KZ IEMs use. The IEMs fit low profile in my ears so you can lay down while wearing them so that's a huge plus.

$50 more than the original R4 but it is worth noting that there are some upgrades over the original. 4GB ram, 64GB internal storage, claimed 15 hrs of battery life and comes with a travel pouch and strap.

Was on the fence myself but with these sneaky improvements seemed like it was with a shot!

I’m currently deciding between the R4 and the Evangelion Edition. While I understand that the Evangelion Edition offers better specs, I’m trying to determine if the difference justifies the higher price. Personally, I’m not a fan of the design of the Evangelion Edition and couldn’t find any solid-color replacement covers for it on the official site. Are there any reputable companies that offer aftermarket covers? Additionally, could anyone recommend a quality cable that works well with both this model and my Focal Bathys?
