The current pricing on Amazon is: M300 $189 (including case and screen protector), R4 $249. I have tried out the M300 and liked the device overall, at the time the R4 wasn't available on Amazon but now that it is I'm wondering if it's worth getting the R4 over the M300. I do plan on using it with a Sony Bluetooth speaker (srsxb43), and with the Fiio FHE and (once they arrive) the FatFreq DEUCE. I'm not too knowledgeable with these kind of things but ivee seen mentioned that R4 has had some issues (overheating), and having to use UAPP with M300 because of some reasons. I guess I'm just wondering if any of that matters or makes one better than the other.

I am looking for an affordable DAP, with decent sound quality to listen to music, podcast and audiobooks while I work in a noisy environment. I have good noise reduction earphones (Etymotic ER3-SE) I didn't want active noise cancelling since it's not actually reducing (much) the amount of noise that reach my ears and instead just mask it. Now I need to pair that with a good DAP (my cheapo Sony Walkman is having issues).
I was looking at the R4 and the M300. The R4 seemed like a great fit, but I was told it tends to run hot and battery life is short. My workday is usually a 10h shift (work 8h45 when you take the lunch and breaks out) so I want something that will last the entire day. The M300 apparently doesn't have a back button which is extremely weird for a device that has buttons on it and it's throwing me off a bit.
I was planning on spending around 200 but I am willing to wait and save more for a device that is : android based so I can get my apps (feel free to suggest apps for high quality music fuck Spotify), has expandable storage with microSD and can last at least a full day.
I was told some of the "issues" (not real issues, just in my case since I want to use it for long periods of time continuously) are caused by it using a class A amp, I'm curious if there is any hiby that has class AB as an option in settings or something to extend the battery life, that would be perfect for me. I could have it in AB for my workday and in class A when I use it at home or when playing disc golf or something.
Hello All. I purchased M300 a couple of weeks ago but I have not been enjoying it at all these days. It is too small and it crashed a lot when I used poweramp and the in-built HiBy music app.
So, I have been looking at HiBy R4 hoping that these are an upgrade to M300. For those of you who have been using R4 for a while now, have you experienced any issues with the DAP?
Thank you. :D
I currently have an old Walkman A45 that I listen to with either my DT 990 Pro or my TINHIFI T3 Plus.
I still use my phone with my old WX3 sometimes. For battery life reasons as well as sound quality, I'd like to switch away from using my phone for music entirely.
The A45 is too inconvenient for my use case. I use Navidrome, Audiobookshelf, etc. Managing my own playlists in a second place for the Walkman makes me use it less than I should. I'd like to be able to use my regular Android apps and just download things while I'm on WiFi (or honestly, eSIM LTE - but I don't want a phone).
So I was looking at the Mechen H11 because I can get it for 75€ right now with a promotion. But it seems massive.
Would the M300 work for my use-case? How's the sound?

The 3.5mm out of the m300 is not bitperfect, and will resample your hi-res music through the Android SRC to 48khz max. Such a poorly designed piece of Chinese garbage.
I've seen a couple of these threads but haven't really seen someone planning to use either of these with high end headphones. I'm familiar with the concept of DAPs but new to the world of DAPs. I recently purchased my first set of high end headphones (Hifiman Arya Stealth V3) and got a DAC/AMP (DX3 Pro+) for Xmas. I absolutely love my setup. Before that, the only headphones I owned were a pair of ATH M50BT. So this is a HUGE improvement. The only thing now is I'd like to listen to music on the go. While I haven't quite found the Go-To spot for downloading music, I do have over 1500 songs downloaded from Spotify and plan to utilize other HiFi apps if need be.
Upon doing some searching, I narrowed it down to these two DAPs as my choices. Similar price points but different use-case correct? With my setup, which DAP seems to be the most beneficial? I'd probably listen to music a few hours a day...2-3ish. I'm not 100% familiar with all the technicalities that go into choosing which DAP...like noise floor, distortion, power requirements, class A amp, number of DAC chips etc.. if more information is needed, I will gladly provide. Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I know these aren't Shangri La or Susvarna level headphones so don't read TOO much into the word 'High end'. I just meant more endgame headphones and wanted some equipment to pair them with
Been looking to get a nice mobile music player that I can use on the go. I like my devices to be medium, but also slightly thick. I just don’t like thin designs in my hand.
I am deciding between these two, and would like to know if there are any notable differences or things to consider between the both of them.
Hello, i'm looking for some help. Right now there's just 20 dollars difference in those daps, which one should I Buy? I use My chinese 5 years-old phone with loose USB Also I have Zero red and planning to buy some warm iems if that's important. Or is there any other recomendation?
I’ve looked through old posts and I know that these players get brought up all the time, so I’ll keep this short.
My use case: Flac, some uncompressed Wav, maybe some high quality mp3s when necessary, and Apple Music with lossless audio downloaded. This would be for both home and on the go use. Headphones are an expensive IEM and an inexpensive IEM. I also have Beyerdynamic DT990 Pros, the 250 ohm version so they take quite a bit of juice. I never take those to go because they’re big and open-back and I have other desktop audio equipment at home, so while I’d like to use these they aren’t a dealbreaker. At this time I have no interest in the balanced output. I almost always have a small bag and/or a lot of pockets, so while portability is nice, size isn’t really a determining factor for me.
In your opinion, which one of these (or a different one I didn’t list) is best for my use case? I don’t want to spend over the cost of the R4. Sorry again for yet another post about these players.
I’m currently using an old Motorola g phone.
i use it only for podcasts and music for commuting and around the house.
i subscribe to tidal (Wired headphones on the computer with dac). Listen on the go mainly with bluetooth. And use a podcast app.
would the hiby m300 be a good choice or r4?
never had a dap before and would like to keep it under $150-200 and would like to keep using android and not a proprietary os.
are there others out there that I haven’t seen? Recommendations?
thanks!
