January 28, 2024 - With a highly luxuriant interpretation of the legacy R8 housing design and some serious internal component upgrades, the RS8 may stand alone in 2022 as the most modern interpretation of a portable audio player to date. April 22, 2023 - The overall sound is refined but lively, without any harshness anywhere in the spectrum. I haven’t yet done a head-to-head comparison with my beloved Mojo2, but I’m certain that the RS8 would come out on top in all respects.

March 18, 2024 - In my mind, RS8 outshines all of the above units in pretty much every department, except for power, and if we’re talking about scale, depth, and imagining, RS8 impresses with or without MSEB settings and plugins.

I messed with the plug ins a bit and MSEB but when I add some to this review in the near future (additional IEM pairings/further in depth on the Ragnar pairing) I'll give them a second try.

March 8, 2023 - Green/gold buttons, green wallpaper with a gold Darwin logo, and a gold HiBy plaque on the back of the case, all complete the design beautifully. The RS8’s layout is simple but it works very well. On the front, you have the gorgeous 5.5” touch screen and on the back a titanium panel with the RS logo.

February 7, 2024 - As I started listening to R8ii, it felt like an evolved, more transparent version of RS8. It has a similar baseline sound DNA with a natural analog tonality, but R8ii sounds cleaner and offers more resolving natural transparency. There are some differences I will cover in the Comparison section of the review, but overall, you are still getting a similar natural tonality, though less neutral and more resolving.
