r/MovieSuggestions on Reddit: Looking for Hidden Gem- Thrillers with Stunning Visuals and Immersive Experience
October 5, 2024 -

I'm looking for underrated thriller movies that often fly under the radar but offer an unforgettable cinematic experience. Think along the lines of Saint Maud, The Night House, Titane, and Last Night in Soho which has brilliant visuals, music, and immersive experience.

I'm particularly interested in thrillers that are not widely known but are gems waiting to be discovered. Any recommendations for films that provide an immersive experience with a blend of great visuals, edits, and music would be greatly appreciated!

Films after 2010 would be much preferable and any language is fine.

r/MovieSuggestions on Reddit: Truly unknown, hidden gem thrillers/legal drama/crime movies? Also Foreign?
November 10, 2024 -

Hello. Every time someone here asks for under-the-radar movies you'd get suggestions like Upgrade, Green Room, The Nice Guys or In Bruges. 90% of movies suggested here are in every other thread. I have gone through most classics and well received film pieces. I am looking for something that is rarely spoken about but at the same time good. An objectively well done story. Most of such movies are usually foreign (in this sub) so that's where I have been digging recently and found quite a few surprises that restored my interest in cinema.

Does not have to be "foreign" (which apparently means outside the US) but please let's stick to something that's not 5/10 or below on movie rating sites (yes, there are exceptions, but I do believe in mathematics and statistics usually transfer). As for the genre - thriller, legal dramas, crime, espionage, whistleblowing, politics etc.

Apologies if the overtone is belligerent but hearing that True Romance is unknown boils my blood more than it probably should. Hopefully I and likeminded lurkers can find something new. Cheers.

in the mood for a thrilling ride but want something off the beaten path. Can anyone recommend a lesser-known thriller movie that really keeps you on the edge of your seat? I'm open to any sub-genre within the thriller category – psychological, crime, mystery, you name it.

I've already seen many of the popular ones, so I'm hoping for some hidden gems that might have flown under the radar. Don't worry about the release year; I'm happy to watch older films as long as they deliver that heart-pounding suspense.

Preferably decently paced movies not too slow, movies that starts with a mystery, slowly unravels and is completely unraveled at the end. After which u go ..ohh now everything falls in place

Like Sinister Hereditary Knives Out Girl with the dragon Tattoo Glass Onion Others

I like straightforward movies better as opposed to movies that leaves a lot of room for interpretation ( like kubrick/lynch movies)

I am a cinephile and have watched a lot of movies and maybe even the ones you'd bet I might not have watched. So I'd really appreciate if you suggested some movies that went under the radar

I feel like i’ve pretty much seen them all trying to find hidden gems out there preferably more recent or from the early 2000s till now. I love films with the midsommar vibe or parasite. Anything that constantly keeps you guessing building a huge amount of unsettling suspense throughout. My top or films i’d like to see that are somewhat visually similar are from films like those mentioned above or story-wise such as any M knight film, prisoners, the menu, blink twice, the skin I live in, gone girl, (more recent), (less recent) se7en, the game, memento, primal fear, frailty, talented Mr. Ripley, all those classics. Not my greatest list my brains not working but just some that came to mind so I need your help haha

I'm the kind of person who's "seen everything" so I'm hoping fellow movie nerds can recommend some great thrillers that aren't as talked about.

My tastes are fairly typical -- I like David Lynch, Cronenberg, Villeneuve, PT Anderson, Lanthimos, Kubrick, Hitchcock, Wilder, female directors, film noir...

There are a lot of pre-90s movies I haven't seen, particularly ones by less acclaimed directors, so classic thrillers would be great, but I'm also here for contemporary hidden gems. Thanks!

Requesting underrated / lesser known thriller movies

Just watched Blow Out! (1981) upon recommendation and really enjoyed it. I had never heard of it before, which got me thinking how many other good thriller films have flown under my radar, as it is one of my favourite genres. Recommend some hidden gem thriller movies. Please try and keep suggestions 1970’s and after as Ive seen a lot of the classics prior to this and have a hard time getting into the more obscure older movies. Foreign films are encouraged as Im probably missing a ton of these.

Ill include my own list of favourite thrillers to start:

Gone Girl

Mother (2009)

Parasite

Get Out

Shutter Island

Prisoners

Nightcrawler

The Invisible Guest

The Wailing

Girl w/ the Dragon Tattoo

The Gift

The Invitation

Eyes Wide Shut

Calibre

Black Swan

There comes a time when you feel like you’ve watched ALL the good mystery/psychological thrillers. You come on this sub and read through the comments and you’ve seen all of them… nocturnal animals, get out, parasite, knives out etc.

What was a lesser known movie I may not have heard of??? Foreign or not I don’t care I just want to scratch my “edge of your seat” itch and I want to believe I haven’t seen EVERYTHING. make me believe x
