Hello! I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for high waisted (rise) hiking pants for women? I'm struggling to find anything over mid rise and I really find them uncomfortable Any suggestions are appreciated!!
Eddie Bauer has womens high-waisted Guide Pro Pants. I get the mid-rise and they are amazing pants, so I imagine the high-waisted are awesome too. I think they might have a couple of other high-waisted styles too.
I have bought shell pants that I absolutely love from Eastern Mountian Sports, and I feel like they are mid-to-high. I wear them about 80% of the year, I live in a fairly cool place so wear wool longjohns under them often, and without longjohns most of the 'summer'
I just got into hiking and am now ready to invest in some proper gear. I've just been wearing leggings, but want something with more pockets.
I live in an area with lots of ticks so I prefer to wear pants even in hot humid weather. I've tried several pairs and they are either too heavy or really low waisted. I'm a curvy woman so I prefer high waisted. Any suggestions??

Seeking recommendations for absurdly high-rise hiking pants. Like higher than Mom-jeans, I want pants that go up to most people's armpits. I'm 5'7", but have an absurdly long torso, and most pants fall well below my natural waist. I have a small-ish waist, and a big-ish butt, and finding pants that actually fit my natural waist is generally a challenge. I hate hiking up my hiking pants!
Most hiking pants don't specify the rise, so I'm wondering if anyone here can recommend very high-rise hiking pants? Obviously quick-dry nylon and/or polyester, lots of pockets are ideal too.
My current favorite hiking pants are the EMS Compass 4-Points Joggers. They're super high-rise, fabric is stretchy (like OR Ferrosi, but more durable) and pockets are deep. Nylon/spandex blend, great DWR, quick-dry, love them. But, they've been discontinued, and sold out in my size! Also, the thighs are kinda baggy, I prefer a skinnier cut thru the thighs, am ambivalent about the jogger-style, but they do work well as built-in gaiters. For reference my favorite jeans are Levi's Mile High Super Skinny, they have an almost 11" front rise, and are barely high enough for me.
So, any recommendations for hiking pants that would make Laura Dern (in Jurassic Park) proud?
As the title states I'm looking for some wider/baggier pants for hiking, most all of them are slim fitting tech pants that don't fit me very well. Any recommendations would be appreciated!
Ladies, I need your help asap! I got some great feedback on a post the other day and am in desperate need of some activewear/hiking pants. I’ll be doing a lot of hiking in Colombia and Brazil, so it’s going to be hot. I need lightweight, easy to wash, comfortable, not insanely expensive, quick shipping to the US. Tall fit would be a bonus. Thank you!
The ubiquity of low rise pants is a plague for me. I just want my pants to rest at my natural waist. To me they feel more secure/snug this way, and give my crotch more room. Low rise pants also aren't good for tucking shirts in. I love my current hiking pants, prana zion stretch, but even they are on the low rise end of the spectrum. Anybody have any other recs? thank you!
I'm going on a backpacking trip in Colorado (Cascade Creek Trail > Crater Lake Trail > Pawnee Pass) in September and looking to get some hiking pants. I know it's a short backpacking trip but I'm looking to get hiking pants for this trip and beyond. I have massive hips but a small waist so generally my issue is that the pants fit my hips and butt but not my waist or vice versa. Does anyone have suggestions for hiking pants for curvy women? I generally prefer high waisted pants but I'm open to all suggestions. Thank you!
Hello fellow travelers! I am planning for a hiking trip in New Zealand and it's bringing increased urgency to my lifelong hunt for the perfect hiking pant. Here is what I'm looking for:
-A medium-weight fabric (maybe slightly fleece-y on the inside?)
-A fitted waist but a slightly looser leg. I like to be able to layer a pair of compression leggings underneath for warmth and support.
-A high-ish rise (belly button height at lowest)
-A 32"+ inseam that's available even in small sizes. I usually wear size xs/s or 0/2/4 and it seems like often the extended inseam lengths are only available in larger waist sizes.
-Not picky about color but prefer a dark neutral.
Thank you in advance!
Hey y’all! Been searching through this sub for climbing pant recommendations and realized I must have a proportionately longer torso compared to most people lol…
I’ve been on the hunt for some truly high waisted pants to climb in, but the most common recommendations I’ve seen end up being mid-rise on me.
I’ve tried on the Prana Kanab pants and the Mountain Hardwear Dynama pants, and they’re basically the exact style I’m looking for, but they still only come up an inch below my belly button!
The only pants I’ve found that sit up high at my natural waist are the Topo Designs Boulder pants.
Hi friends! I used to LOVE the prAna halle pant but unfortch they seem to have changed the fabric or construction and my most recent pair just isn’t up to scratch💔 What are your favorite hiking pants that are flattering & cute but functional. A straight leg or jogger really isn’t so flattering on me, ideally I love a pant thats fitted on the top and tapers out into a flare or bootcut. Thanks for recs!
The title says it all. Ladies, I'm looking for someone who has a similar struggle finding womens pants that fit. I'm built like a solid rectangle. My waist measurement and hips/butt measurement is the same. This is a problem because womens clothes are cut to an hourglass shape. So my stomach is squeezed into button ups or in an elastic band and I've got a lot of poofy extra fabric at the hips that looks silly. So, any ladies find a pair of elastic waist pants that don't have any hip gaps?
I have The North Face Aphrodite 2.0 that I love but I'm looking for any type of pants: fleece lined, rain pants, or summer hiking pants. I'm 150lbs and my waist and hips measure about 36 and 38 respectively, so I wear a large in most bottoms. Price is definitely not a factor here. I want to have quality options that fit well.
Any womens or juniors options for quality pants for my body type? Or do we venture into menswear? Thank you!
Hey Ladies, looking for hiking tights with ripstop all over or just reinforced areas on butt and knees that have an ultra high waist. So many are just midrise which won't stay up over my butt and belly.
Not bag related, but I’m looking for pants that work for both hiking and city wear! Ideally cinched at the ankle because I find that helps hiking pants look a bit cooler.
A question for the ladies! Does anyone have any recommendations for pants that are more wide leg/loose that I could both hike & generally travel in? I have an old pair of wide leg cargos from Lorna Jane that are ALMOST the perfect pant but they don't dry very quickly so not an ideal hiking solution in hot weather. But I want something I can both walk in and also use as my only long length pants while travelling. I like the cargos as I can store snacks and things in the pockets. Any brand suggestions would be really appreciated! Or if there's another thread you think would be better for this question let me know! 😊
I want to get into hiking and am currently looking for hiking pants.
Do you have recommendations for good pants that are on the baggier side?
Of course they shouldn't be overly baggy and still functional, I don't want to get caught on everything. I just really don't like the look and feel of regular tapered pants.
Thanks! :)
I'm looking for baggy hiking pants with a fit like Arcteryx ones, and deep pockets for storage. Preferably with good heat regulation, but I can always wear tights underneat, and definitely waterproof.
I'm 5'1, 23" waist. Would love recs if you found really baggy but still functional pants :)
Almost everything I come across clothing wise is extremely low cut on the hips. I feel much more comfortable with high rise pants (wrangler cowboy cut slim fit jeans look and feel great on me). If anyone can point me toward performance materials with a high waist, without having to go bespoke, it would be much appreciated. Cheers.
P.s. by "long rise" I mean something around 11" on a 34" waist.
Hi, I need some help finding durable hiking pants/trousers (not leggings) that will fit someone with a larger hip/seat/thigh to waist ratio. I know I'm not alone, but I'm having trouble finding resources listing the best current pants for people like me.
The best ones I've tried are the Fjallraven Curved series (and even they are a little wide in the waist) but they are above my price range. Hoping to find used ones in my size & price range, but no luck so far.
More pants are coming out with those weird little velcro tabs on the side, but when you have to actually reduce the waist-size significantly using them, it can be quite bulky and irritating, especially under a hip-belt.
I'd love to hear what you know!
