Looking to install new floor is just over 1000 sqft of space. Randomly went to Home Depot and saw floorinstall price if $3.7 per sqft. I have been quoted $6.5 to $8.5 per sqft by specialists floor shops in Ssattle area. Was wondering if Home Depot is a path worth exploring as they are offering warranty for install and product (havent looked into the product catalog yet but I am sure i will fine one floor that I like. Looking into Engineered hardwood options). Are there folks here who went with Home Depot and would like to share thoughts? Thanks all.
I recently bought a bit of a fixer-upper and intended to replace the existing carpet that's in pretty rough shape with engineered hardwood throughout the entire home. This entire time I've been getting quotes from some local independent flooring contractors for some nice Canadian engineered hardwood (I'm partial to buying Canadian even if I have to pay a little premium for it). But I've started to realize that I'm going overbudget on my renovation plans (I'm redoing the kitchen as well) and it has me rethinking how "nice" I need the floors to be, especially with recent layoffs in my field.
My current quotes have me at 20-25k total including installation (pre-tax) for nice floors from Appalachian from independent flooring contractors. The material is approximately $10.50/sqft, and this is the cheapest engineered product they offer.
I was looking at home depot's website and even the most expensive engineered hardwood there is like $6.50/sqft and the estimates they have for installation is way cheaper too. Like it looks like I could get everything done in around $10k-12k. It would be nice to buy some fancier Canadian floors if it's a 3k premium but I didn't realize it would be literally double my entire budget to go that route.
Anyone have advice on if it's paying twice the price us substantially worth it for the floors and how noticeable the difference is? Has anyone gone with Home Depot (or Lowe's/Costco) and had a good experience? And any tips on what the best engineered hardwood at big box stores are?
For context, this isn't our forever home but I do expect to live here for around 5 years. I worry I wouldn't have a great ROI if I went with the nicest floors when it's time to sell, but I also don't want floors that feel super cheap and fake and makes our place feel tacky.
