I did a design with home depot. Picked the 15 thomasville cabinets with a large pantry cabinet, all the features I wanted. They ended up costing $26,000 in total. Pretty ridiculous. But they had a 30% off special going that would knock the price down to $16k. Which I'm thinking isn't too bad. Only thing is the deal ends in 2 days and I have to make this decision before I was quite ready.
Is this 30% off deal truly a good value that might not come around again soon?

And those are particle board and MDF. Check out cabinets.com. For less money you'll get plywood boxes and maple fronts dropped at your door. The 30% is always there.

Those stores don't "do" kitchen remodeling. They just send it out to local contractors to come in and give you a quote. They're typically on the high end of pricing for what they do. The biggest problem I have with them though tends to be the constant fight between who's responsible for what - contractors vs store. I'm not saying don't use them, just be aware of what it is - it's not HD/Lowes doing the remodel. More on reddit.com

June 22, 2011 - My kitchen is kind of old, built in 1986. We got new appliances. Now are trying to spruce up our kitchen cabinets and counter top. Cabinets are made of wood, so HD guy told us to reface them. Countertops will be replaced with granite. He gave out a quote, and applied 10% off, etc.

Looking to do cabinets, countertops, and appliances in my kitchen (basically a remodel) and am being quoted $19-23k by Home Depot estimator. Never having gone through them, any idea how close these estimates usually are? Most stuff is low to mid end.

Why not just buy the cabinets there and use a contractor of your own choosing? That’s what I did. Their kitchen design service imo and experience is great. Good quality, many choices, and prices are great as they often run promos. Also, upside to purchasing a counter top there: you don’t have to buy the full slab but only pay for the sq ft you need. They also install the counter once the cabinets are in, it’s incl in the price. So work with your own installer / handyman/contractor who might come recommend by a friend or family member and have him install the cabinets bought at HD.
