Other than physically looking, there is no real way to know. It changes day by day as the vendors bring in whatever they have to showcase. As the other person said, plants are Pay-By-Sale (or is it Scan?) PBS products which means that Home Depot doesn't purchase and resell them like other merchandise. That is why we are not allowed to discount plants or use our typical "empowerment" judgment call -- it is not our jurisdiction, not our products. If you scan a barcode in SKU Depot and see the "[PBS]" text, that's the indicator. Now if a plant vendor happens to be around and is willing to discount a half-dead plant from their company for half-off, that is their call and we can help the cashier authorize that one-off exception to the rule. The chances of that happening are slim so in general just say our hands are tied. Answer from RicochetOtter on reddit.com

This is what happens to plants at Home Depot that are not good looking
Meanwhile their blue competitor has a 'sick bed' (as my mom calls it) where they mark down plants that don't necessarily look the best. I've gotten many deals there. More on reddit.com

What happens to the home depot/lowes/walmart plants?
I don't know about the box stores but I worked for a small hardware store for years. Some vendors take the plants back, others give you a credit do you can discount them without losing too much money. A lot of them end up in an employee's garden after the hit the verge of death. More on reddit.com

What is your favourite plant to buy at Home Depot? I’ll go first.
I’m a sucker for succulents. I agree I had a lot of fun helping customers match their soils and rocks to the plants they got. Saved a lot of succulent lives from the water retaining soil. More on reddit.com

I think these pink flowers are beautiful

those who do working in garden do you enjoy it? And if so what parts of working in garden do you enjoy? I love it because it forces me to learn all the different plants except I don’t know this one but I’ve learned how to tell people what soil to use based on what plant they buy.

buying from Home Depot?????????
February 8, 2004 - They have usually just been to WalMart and want me to tell them how to grow what they bought there. I have been patient and understanding, but I am afraid that the majority of people are pretty stupid. What good does a one year warranity do you? People don't seem to understand how foolish it is to save 50 cents on a plant and lose a year in the garden.
