I have about 1200$ in Home Depot gift cards from a rewards program, and have been thinking about purchasing a riding lawn mower for my 2/3 acre lawn. Currently I think i'd like to stay around the 3.5k price point.
I see a lot of mixed reviews on pretty much all the mowers HD offers, so my question is whats your opinion on the product line at HD are any of them worth their salt? or should I spend my gift cards on something else at HD and purchase a mower from a specialty shop with more/different variety ?

I had a pile of gift cards for HD and after an unexpected move, was in need of a new mower. I got a Cub 50” rider there and it has mowed 2 acres weekly for me for the past 8 years. I’m due for an upgrade, just because I want one, but doing the yearly maintenance and keeping it under shelter I think I could get another 8 out of it easily.

Just mowing? You might put 60-70 hrs a year on it. At that rate it should last 10+ years. If you have slopes or planing on pulling stuff you might consider something a little more heavy duty.
