Ladies - I Need Your Help with a Small Female Owned Business Idea
So one thing I struggled with early on was wanting to do everything. I wanted to make sure that all of my bases were covered. The very first business I started was in the pet supplies niche. I wanted to make sure I had something for everyone who visited my new site. My husband, who had about 20 prior years of business experience, told me that was a terrible idea. He said one of the biggest mistakes people make with a business is trying to cover all bases from day 1. And you know what? He was right. I failed miserably in the first few months and I was devastated. My husband stepped in and took the time to help me niche down. I focused on literally one thing for one type of animal, and you know what? Sales fucking EXPLODED. It's SO MUCH EASIER to niche down and market yourself as being really good at just one thing. Only once I got that under control was I able to expand and start offering more products. Even after 'expanding' I'm still HEAVILY niched down. I wanted to have an online pet supplies store that had options for EVERY type of pet owner. Fucking stupid idea looking back, why would people pick me over Chewy? Even though I've expanded, I still only offer various cat toys and catnip, and nothing else. People (and google!) are now starting to see me as an authority on organic cat toys and catnip. Right now like 60% of our orders are repeat monthly buyers. Fast forward to today and we're 2 successful businesses in, about to launch a third. My suggestion to you? Niche WAY down. Your original post has a list of a bunch of different things, and you're still asking if more services should be added. No. Find ONE service that you're damn good at, become an expert on that service, make Google see you as a local authority for that service. Branch out once you actually have some revenue coming in. May 1, 2024 -

I am looking to start a side hustle (possible weekday evenings and weekends) using my creative skills. I'm highly efficient and organized - with databases or a pantry, an event planner, and I've taught craft classes (I cook, sew, crochet, knit, paint..). I can build the website, appt calendar, and social media myself as well. The local demographic is suburban, middle to upper middle class, likely married with a family.

My current thought is to offer Mobile Homemaker? Hospitality? Services, (gift wrapping, special projects, and party planning and execution: dinner, cocktail, book clubs, kids parties, girls night in). This could include menu and activity planning, food prep, cooking, food presentation-buffet, pass around, or formal sit down). Would you hire someone for this? What would be a reasonable fee? are Mobile Home Maker or Mobile Hospitality Services a good title? Are there other services I could add? Or, most importantly, am I totally off the mark with this idea? Thanks!

That certainly sounds like a great idea and would definitely be possible! Getting into that niche may be difficult at first, however, once you're in, I'm sure you'd become very busy! I would recommend you change the name of what you do (Mobile Homemaker) to something more along the lines of: Lifestyle Manager, Personal Concierge, Event and Project Manager, Creative Consultant or a Home Organiser and Event Planner depending on what you plan to focus on more. The key is to make it sound more professional especially if your target market is/can be within upper class. I hope this helps a bit and you can do this! It's more than possible and I absolutely love your ideas! Go for it!
