Bearing slide DIY...Help? | Expedition Portal
In the attempt to begin planing to build my rear slide out I have a question about bearings. Specifically the ones used to make your own super HD drawer slides or fridge slide. Can anyone post some pics of how they did theirs and their thoughts on this kind versus more traditional ball bearing... More on forum.expeditionportal.com

metal drawer glides or just wood on wood.... - FineWoodworking
In the past when making cabinets I’ve always used metal drawer glides, typically side mount. Thinking of most dressers I’ve experienced in my lifetime – the better ones are just wood on wood. Sometimes the drawers bind and don’t slide so nicely (on the lower quality dressers). More on finewoodworking.com

June 21, 2012 - I've never made anything with the bearing roller type setup but I do know a bunch about drawer slides. Plus for bearing rollers is that they are probably less susceptible to dirt and dust. However, I would only consider this an issue if it is an open vehicle. Plus for ball bearing drawer slides is that they are full extension giving you full access to all the drawer contents.

They installed springs behind the fixed rails for lateral adjustments, and a drop caul on the sides of the drawer to top the drawer from being pulled all the way out. r/Workbenches on Reddit: DIY drawer slides... How long (and heavy) can you reasonably go
March 16, 2020 -

I’m a drawer newbie so please excuse my ignorance.

I have a 48”x27” space on the bottom of one side of my work bench. I’d love to do a sliding tray to access the items on the back side without having to roll out the table from the wall. The problem is 48” drawer slides are almost $200. (about as much as I have into the workbench so far for everything else.) Any more economical options, DIY or otherwise? I thought about just waxing some rails and sliding the tray on those but I wonder how it will work with such a large and heavy tray.

May 5, 2020 - It's a shelf that is mounted underneath where the planer is mounted and has a roller on the end so that if you are planing a long board it can hold the end until you get around to that side. That is why it cannot have any sag as it's matched to the outfeed table. You can extend or retract the shelf in order to match the length of what you are planing. I've googled a number of home made drawer slides, but they all seem to sag slightly when opened.

Simple old style (bent metal) drawer slide? - DoItYourself.com Community Forums
April 16, 2015 - The issue is, any typical drawer slide is meant to be mounted on the side supported by ball bearings, etc, or mounted on the bottom. I haven't seen anything that supports being mounted from the top essentially causing the slides to be "pulled a part" by the weight its holding. I don't have any sort of metal tools to make something, but the flour sifter uses a simple slide made of bent metal, basically the same principle as a wood slider in a way.
