October 31, 2024I can't choose an arrondissement for my first trip to Paris. I would appreciate any help/advice. Specific hotel recommendations would be appreciated as well.
First time in Paris I would strongly suggest staying in the 1st arrondissement. It's the most central and you can then figure out if you really like the Marais or the 8th or 16th for later trips. Your budget is way above what most people on this sub are usually asking for, but it is not at the level of top palaces like Cheval Blanc, Ritz, Crillon... In the 1st you will be at walking distance from the Louvre, Notre Dame, the Opera, Grands Magasins... Nolinski, Le Burgundy are options. Enjoy your trip. More on reddit.com

Funny you mention red light districts, because the closest thing Paris has to one is Pigalle, quite close to Place de Clichy. This is really due to peep shows and sex shops, though, not rampant prostitution. Many even consider it a tourist attraction, it's where the Moulin Rouge is. There's not a single "oh god, not there" spot I can think of in Paris proper (within the périphérique), but if your family trip involves young children or straitlaced adults, you might want to look for somewhere quieter. When my family came to visit me they stayed in the 12th, near Nation, and really liked it. More on reddit.com

Looking for a place to stay for our first trip (only two days) seems mainly the botique hotels are the affordable ones… had a real bad experience in Puerto Rico at a botique… (looking for $250-350 a night)…. Reviews are basically - sucks, dirty, moldy small or the greatest place I’ve ever stayed… everything I’m looking at lol
