What's the longest lasting garden furniture in your experience? We've tried wood and plastic and neither have lasted beyond 5-6 years (we aren't able to store them indoors in winter).

Patio furniture: how do you make it last longer? What is a good brand/style for durability?

Stop buying cheap, shitty furniture. I'm not saying that all expensive patio sets are going to be good, but the cheap ones from discount retailers are almost never going to last. There are way too many different types and styles of furniture, but look for sets which are made of materials that can handle the outdoors. Rain and sun are murder on materials. Steal rusts, so go with aluminum or wood if possible. I have an outdoor couch which has a steal tune frame. When I was assembling it, I resprayed parts of the frame that looked like they might hold water. I sprayed as best I could the interior of the tubes so they wouldn't rust from the inside out. Cover them in the winter and if possible use a shade or awning to block some sun from hitting them all summer long. The UV from the sun does a number on plastics. Usually, but not always, darker plastics have better UV inhibitors so the plastics don't break down as fast. Not everyone wants black furniture, so that's where some kind of awning can help keep things in the shade and possibly block some rain. More on reddit.com
